Identification and fingerprint analysis of novel multi-isomeric Lycibarbarspermidines and Lycibarbarspermines from Lycium barbarum L. by liquid chromatography with high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Orbitrap)

Gabriel Selonke dos Santos et al.

Summary: Goji berry is widely consumed in Asia and globally introduced as a supplement and functional food. Recent investigations have uncovered novel phytochemical constituents, such as glucosyl-caffeoylspermidine isomers and unique glycosides containing spermine as the polyamine core, posing analytical challenges. This exploration has led to the identification and characterization of approximately one hundred different structures with novel glycan chains and polyamine core linked to caffeic and/or dihydrocaffeic acids.

Hydroxycinnamate Amides: Intriguing Conjugates of Plant Protective Metabolites

Dylan R. Zeiss et al.

Summary: The synthesis of aromatic monoamines and aliphatic polyamines is responsive to environmental stresses and can generate HCA amides, which play a role in plant defense. Conjugation of amines to hydroxycinnamic acids may reduce metabolite polarity and assist in translocation, stability, and compartmentalization, with recent metabolomic studies identifying HCAAs as biomarkers during plant-pathogen interactions.
