Influences of five dietary manganese sources on growth, feed utilization, lipid metabolism, antioxidant capacity, inflammatory response and endoplasmic reticulum stress in yellow catfish intestine

Jie-Jie Xu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of five dietary manganese sources on the growth, feed utilization, lipid metabolism, antioxidant capacity, inflammatory response, and endoplasmic reticulum stress in the intestinal tissues of yellow catfish. Organic manganese supplements (Mn-Gly and Mn-MHA) improved the growth, feed utilization, intestinal health, inflammatory responses, and antioxidant capacity of yellow catfish. These supplements also reduced endoplasmic reticulum stress.

Immunomodulation, Fish Health and Resistance to Staphylococcus aureus of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) Fed Diet Supplemented with Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles and Zinc Acetate

Atif Yaqub et al.

Summary: Recently, metal-based nanoparticles have gained attention as feed supplements in aquaculture and the fish feed industry. A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of chemically synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) and zinc acetate on Nile tilapia fingerlings. The results showed that the diet supplemented with 40 mg/kg of ZnO-NPs demonstrated the best performance in terms of health parameters, oxidative status, and disease resistance.

Mitochondria-Dependent Oxidative Stress Mediates ZnO Nanoparticle (ZnO NP)-Induced Mitophagy and Lipotoxicity in Freshwater Teleost Fish

Guang-Hui Chen et al.

Summary: ZnO NPs are widely used and distributed in the environment, yet their toxicities and mechanisms on physiological processes and metabolism remain largely unknown. This study found that dietary ZnO NPs disturbed hepatic Zn metabolism, increased Zn and lipid accumulation, induced oxidative stress, and activated mitophagy. Suppression of mitochondrial oxidative stress attenuated ZnO NP-induced mitophagy and lipotoxicity.

Feeding rate and frequency during the first feeding of angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare- Schultze, 1823) and severum (Heros severus- Heckel, 1840) with Moina sp.

Bruno Jose Corecha Fernandes Eiras et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the best feeding strategy for angelfish and severum post-larvae. Growth performance and intestinal histomorphometry were evaluated under different feeding rates and frequencies. The results suggest that a feeding rate of 400 Moina sp. post-larvae/day divided into two times is recommended for both species.

Organic and inorganic zinc in the diet of a commercial strain of diploid and triploid rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss): Effects on performance and mineral retention

Kristen A. Meiler et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of organic and inorganic zinc on diploid and triploid rainbow trout, showing significant interactions between zinc type and dose on nutrient retention. Results suggest lower organic zinc requirement in triploid trout, with a recommendation of 123 mg/kg for inorganic zinc and 63 mg/kg for organic zinc in the diet. Interactions between type of zinc and dose had a significant effect on nutrient retention, indicating a potential for increased capacity to utilize feed ingredients.

Endoplasmic reticulum stress signals in the tumour and its microenvironment

Xi Chen et al.

Summary: This review explores how ER stress in the tumor microenvironment can influence the functions of cancer cells and immune cells, leading to vulnerabilities that could be targeted by emerging therapeutic strategies. The tightly regulated processes of protein handling, modification, and folding in the ER determine cell function and survival, and disruptions in ER homeostasis can result in a state of persistent ER stress with pro-tumoral effects in cancer cells and immunomodulatory effects in immune cells.
