Downregulation of miR-885-5p Promotes NF-KB Pathway Activation and Immune Recruitment in Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus

Cristina Sole et al.

Summary: This study found that miR-885-5p expression is significantly reduced in the epidermis of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) lesions. IFN-a and UVB are strong regulators of miR-885-5p. Inhibition of miR-885-5p promotes epidermal inflammation and proliferation through PSMB5 and immune recruitment through TRAF1, respectively.

miR-489-3p inhibits TLR4/NF-κB signaling to prevent inflammation in psoriasis

Yujian Ye et al.

Summary: In psoriasis, miR-489-3p expression is downregulated, with bioinformatics analysis revealing TLR4 as a direct target. Overexpression of miR-489-3p suppresses the TLR4/NF-kappa B signaling pathway and reduces cell proliferation, while silencing of TLR4 enhances cell proliferation and inflammatory cytokine secretion. MiR-489-3p may be a key effector of psoriasis, serving as a potential prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for treatment.

Acute Alcohol Intoxication Modulates Monocyte Subsets and Their Functions in a Time-Dependent Manner in Healthy Volunteers

Andrea Janicova et al.

Summary: Acute alcohol intoxication leads to redistribution of monocyte subsets towards a pro-inflammatory phenotype, followed by differentiation into an anti-inflammatory phenotype. This is accompanied by significant functional depression, indicating time-dependent hyporesponsiveness of monocytes to pathogenic triggers induced by alcohol.

Effect of oral alcohol administration on plasma cytokine concentrations in heavy drinking individuals

Mary R. Lee et al.

Summary: The study found that after oral alcohol consumption, there was a significant decrease in TNF-alpha concentration and a significant increase in IL-6 concentration in heavy drinkers. There were no significant changes in IL-18 or IL-10 concentrations. Further research is needed to fully understand the complex interaction between alcohol and the immune system.

Alternative activation of macrophages by prostacyclin synthase ameliorates alcohol induced liver injury

Xue-yin Pan et al.

Summary: The study revealed that decreased levels of prostacyclin synthase (PTGIS) are associated with elevated miR-140-3p.1 expression in chronic alcoholic liver disease. Inducing PTGIS expression alleviates chronic alcohol-induced liver injury by promoting macrophage M2 polarization and inhibiting the M1 phenotype through the JAK/STAT pathway. Furthermore, the study found that inducing PTGIS expression also increases IL-6 expression, implicating its involvement in macrophage polarization regulated by JAK/STAT signaling.

Plasma MicroRNA Signature of Alcohol Consumption: The Rotterdam Study

Irma Karabegovic et al.

Summary: The study found that alcohol consumption is associated with plasma concentrations of 4 miRNAs, with miR-3937 and miR-122-5p potentially mediating the link between alcohol consumption and liver traits. Pathway analysis of putative target genes suggests involvement in biological regulation and cellular processes.
