The accumulation and toxicity of ZIF-8 nanoparticles in Corbicula fluminea

Cuilian Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the toxic effects of ZIF-8 nanoparticles on benthic organisms and found that oxidative stress induced by ZIF-8 NPs and the released Zn2+ were the crucial cause of the toxic effects. Additionally, the study revealed that ZIF-8 NPs and dissolved Zn2+ may lead to different mechanisms of toxicity and accumulation depending on the dosages.

Persistent impact of amitriptyline on the behavior, brain neurotransmitter, and transcriptional profile of zebrafish (Danio rerio)

Xuchun Qiu et al.

Summary: Discontinuation of amitriptyline (AMI) has been shown to cause long-term withdrawal syndromes in mammals. However, this study focused on the persistent effects of short-term AMI exposure on teleosts. The results showed that AMI exposure led to persistent hypoactivity and abnormal schooling behavior in zebrafish. It also affected the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain and dysregulated certain pathways. These findings highlight the potential long-term adverse effects of AMI on teleosts.

Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8 Nanoparticles Exhibit More Severe Toxicity to the Embryo/Larvae of Zebrafish (Danio rerio) When Co-Exposed with Cetylpyridinium Chloride

Xuchun Qiu et al.

Summary: The combined application of nanoparticles and surfactants has attracted considerable attention, but the toxicity of their combination is not well understood. This study found that within a certain concentration range, both single and combined exposures had limited effects on the survival and hatching of zebrafish. However, the combined exposure of zeolitic imidazolate framework nanoparticles (ZIF-NPs) and cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) caused more severe effects on the heart rate and induced hyperactivity and oxidative stress in zebrafish larvae.

Xuchun Qiu et al.

Summary: Cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), a widely used surfactant, has been found in various water ecosystems. This study investigated the toxicity of CPC to zebrafish and found that it can lead to significant mortality, decreased heart rate, altered locomotion activity, and increased oxidative stress. These findings highlight the potential risks of CPC to fish development, behavior, and oxidative status.

Impacts of chronic exposure to sublethal diazepam on behavioral traits of female and male zebrafish (Danio rerio)

Kun Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that chronic exposure to diazepam (DZP) led to decreased swimming velocity and locomotor activity in both female and male zebrafish, with females being more sensitive and developing tolerance to the hypoactive effect induced by DZP. DZP also exhibited sex-dependent effects on social interactions and courtship behaviors in fish, as well as on brain gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) levels.
