Overview of the role and action mechanism of microRNA-128 in viral infections

Shadia Hamoud Alshahrani et al.

Summary: Recent studies in vivo and in vitro have shown the importance of microRNAs (miRNAs) in both normal and disease conditions. MiR-128 has been found to play a critical role in viral infections, such as human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and measles virus. It can act as an antiviral mediator and regulate the expression of genes involved in viral replication. Target prediction analysis has also revealed its involvement in Equine arteritis virus (EAV) infection.

The role of miR-128 in cancer development, prevention, drug resistance, and immunotherapy

Hendrik Setia Budi et al.

Summary: A growing body of evidence has shown that microRNA (miRNA) expression is dysregulated in cancer, acting as either oncogenes or suppressors. Certain miRNAs have been found to play a role in cancer cell drug resistance by targeting drug-resistance-related genes or genes involved in cell proliferation, cycle, and apoptosis. This review focuses on miR-128 in multiple cancer types, discussing its functions, processes, and potential involvement in cancer drug resistance and tumor immunotherapy.

The Role of miR-128 in Neurodegenerative Diseases

Marika Lanza et al.

Summary: Several neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Huntington's disease, are characterized by the accumulation of misfolded proteins known as proteinopathies. Changes in gene expression, particularly in noncoding RNAs like miR-128, which is highly expressed in mammalian brains, may play a role in these diseases. Targeting miR-128 could potentially alleviate the behavioral phenotype associated with these diseases, as it is involved in neuronal plasticity, cytoskeletal organization, and neuronal death.

Reexamining assumptions about miRNA-guided gene silencing

Audrius Kilikevicius et al.

Summary: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have the potential to regulate the expression of any RNA, but our understanding of their molecular mechanism is still limited. Insufficient focus on the mechanism of miRNAs and lack of evidence linking specific miRNA expression to biological phenotypes have hindered our accurate understanding of miRNA function.

A review on methods for predicting miRNA-mRNA regulatory modules

Madhumita Madhumita et al.

Summary: Understanding the complex interactions between miRNAs and mRNAs in a regulatory network is crucial for comprehending biological processes. This article comprehensively reviews 26 algorithms/methods/tools for identifying miRNA-mRNA regulatory modules (MRMs), categorizing them into eight groups based on mathematical approaches. The integration of miRNA and mRNA expression profiles with target binding information has improved the efficiency and flexibility of these approaches.

Exosomal miR-128-3p Promotes Epithelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition in Colorectal Cancer Cells by Targeting FOXO4 via TGF-β/SMAD and JAK/STAT3 Signaling

Jian Bai et al.

Summary: The study revealed that miR-128-3p regulates EMT between CRC cells through exosomal delivery by directly suppressing FOXO4 to activate TGF-beta/SMAD and JAK/STAT3 signaling pathways. High expression of miR-128-3p was significantly associated with pathological features in CRC patients, suggesting that exosomal miR-128-3p could serve as a novel therapeutic approach for CRC.
