Attosecond coherent control of electronic wave packets in two-colour photoionization using a novel timing tool for seeded free-electron laser

Praveen Kumar Maroju et al.

Summary: In ultrafast spectroscopy, the control and characterization of the synchronization between pump and probe pulses is crucial for temporal resolution. We demonstrate a single-shot technique that can determine the relative synchronization between an attosecond pulse train and an optical oscillation with a resolution of one atomic unit. This technique enables attosecond coherent control of photoionization in a two-colour field by manipulating the phase of high-order near-infrared transitions.

Helicity-independent all-optical switching of magnetization in ferrimagnetic alloys

C. S. Davies et al.

Summary: This paper reviews and discusses the all-optical switching process in which a single fast excitation can toggle magnetization from one stable state to another. While this phenomenon was initially observed in specific rare-earth-transition-metal ferrimagnetic alloys, recent breakthrough experiments have demonstrated that the same behavior can be achieved in a wide range of multi-sublattice magnets. Studies have shown that the switching process in these alloys is highly sensitive to pulse duration, starting temperature, and alloy composition. The authors argue that the switching in these different ferrimagnetic alloys can be understood within a single phenomenological framework describing the flow of angular momentum between sublattices and the environment.
