Horseradish Peroxidase-Functionalized Gold Nanoconjugates for Breast Cancer Treatment Based on Enzyme Prodrug Therapy

Summary: In this study, a novel nanodevice based on enzyme-functionalized gold nanoparticles for enzyme prodrug therapy (EPT) in breast cancer was designed and evaluated. The results showed that the nanodevice was effectively internalized by breast cancer cells and co-treatment with the nanodevice and enzyme prodrug significantly reduced the viability of breast cancer cells. The findings from three-dimensional tumor models also demonstrated the therapeutic effectiveness of this nanodevice.

Delayed alveolar clearance of nanoparticles through control of coating composition and interaction with lung surfactant protein A

Summary: The coating composition of nanomedicines plays an important role in determining the fate and clearance of the medicines in the body. In this study, two micellar superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) with different coatings were compared to understand their impact in pulmonary administration. The results showed that phosphatidylcholine (PC) coating could prolong the retention time of the nanoparticles in the lungs, making it suitable for pulmonary drug delivery. On the other hand, bovine serum albumin (BSA) coated nanoparticles were cleared more rapidly.

An Innovative Formulation Based on Nanostructured Lipid Carriers for Imatinib Delivery: Pre-Formulation, Cellular Uptake and Cytotoxicity Studies

Summary: Imatinib-loaded nanostructured lipid carrier system (F16-IMT) was successfully developed and characterized in this study. The F16-IMT formulation exhibited small particle size, stability, and efficient drug release. It also showed good cellular uptake and cytotoxicity against CRL-1739 cells. These findings suggest that F16-IMT has the potential to be an effective treatment for GIST.

Encapsulation and release capabilities were demonstrated using a model chemotherapeutic drug, and in vitro cytotoxicity assays showed promising results against tumor cell lines.

Endovascular administration of magnetized nanocarriers targeting brain delivery after stroke

Iron-Gold Nanoflowers: A Promising Tool for Multimodal Imaging and Hyperthermia Therapy

In this study, a new seed-assisted method was used to synthesize Au@Fe nanoparticles with a flower-like structure, which exhibited excellent features as both MRI and CT Contrast Agents. These nanoparticles also showed considerable energy-to-heat conversion under both Alternating Magnetic Fields and Near-Infrared light. Moreover, they exhibited very low cytotoxicity, confirming their potential for theranostics applications.

Fluorescent PLGA Nanocarriers for Pulmonary Administration: Influence of the Surface Charge

Summary: Respiratory diseases cause nearly four million deaths every year, and the COVID-19 pandemic has increased the morbidity and mortality rates. Engineered nanocarriers can improve drug delivery while reducing side effects. Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA), a biodegradable polymer, is being studied as an inhalable drug delivery system. In this study, nanocapsules with positive and negative surface charges were fabricated, and it was found that the nanocapsules with negative charge had faster and greater cell uptake.

A Promising Antifungal and Antiamoebic Effect of Silver Nanorings, a Novel Type of AgNP

Summary: Silver nanoparticles have potent antimicrobial activity and are investigated as an alternative to antimicrobial drugs. This study analyzed the antifungal and antiamoebic effects of a new type of silver nanoparticles called silver nanorings (AgNRs), and compared them with other types of silver nanoparticles. The results showed that silver nanoparticles have high biocidal effect, with antifungal activity depending on the fungal species involved, and AgNRs and silver nanowires (AgNWs) having an inhibitory effect on the growth of Acanthamoeba castellanii.

Optomagnetic nanofluids for controlled brain hyperthermia: a critical study

However, experiments have shown that OMNFs cannot effectively induce heating under alternating magnetic fields and fail to provide reliable temperature readings, while the use of luminescent nanofluids containing only luminescent nanoparticles performs better.

Synergistic immunomodulatory effect in macrophages mediated by magnetic nanoparticles modified with miRNAs

It was demonstrated that CMD-MNP-miRNA155 and CMD-MNP-miRNA125b nanoparticles could induce a pro-inflammatory response in human macrophages by increasing the expression of CD80 and the levels of TNF-alpha and IL-6.
