Connecting morphology and photoluminescence emissions in β-Ag2MoO4 microcrystals

Vinicius Teodoro et al.

Summary: This study reveals the relationships between morphology and photoluminescence emissions in beta-Ag2MoO4 samples synthesized by microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. It demonstrates the significant roles of solvent (water and ammonia) and temperature (120-150 degrees C) in determining the morphology and PL emissions. By establishing a crystal structure model and analyzing possible mechanisms during synthesis, it offers a new direction for preparing and developing beta-Ag2MoO4 based materials with desired properties.

Antifungal Activity and Biocompatibility of α-AgVO3, α-Ag2WO4, and β-Ag2MoO4 Using a Three-Dimensional Coculture Model of the Oral Mucosa

Bruna Natalia Alves da Silva Pimentel et al.

Summary: Fungal infections, especially those caused by Candida spp., are a significant concern in the medical community. The development of drug resistance in existing antifungal therapies highlights the need for new antifungal drugs. This study evaluated the antifungal activity and biocompatibility of silver-containing microcrystals, and developed a new three-dimensional coculture model to assess the materials' effectiveness.

Design of therapeutic biomaterials to control inflammation

Zhaoxu Tu et al.

Summary: Inflammation plays a crucial role in our body's response to injury or infection, but dysregulation can lead to chronic inflammation and inflammatory diseases. Biomaterials can enhance the efficacy of anti-inflammatory drugs by improving drug bioavailability and reducing side effects. Key elements of the inflammatory environment and the design of biomaterials for anti-inflammatory therapeutic strategies are discussed in this Review.

Revealing the Nature of Defects in α-Ag2WO4 by Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy: A Joint Experimental and Theoretical Study

Marcelo Assis et al.

Summary: Electron-matter coupling is explored in this study to understand the generation and properties of vacancy-like defects in alpha-Ag2WO4 samples under electron beam irradiation. Various characterization techniques were used to analyze the defect structures, and it was found that samples synthesized in ethanol have more complex defect structures compared to those synthesized in water. All samples were found to contain Ag vacancies, with the concentration of these defects increasing with irradiation time.

Summary: This study developed a drug delivery system using anionic beta cyclodextrin complexes to retain and control the release of tetracycline on titanium surface. The system showed controlled drug release over 15 days, sustained release over 30 days, and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The non-cytotoxic effect on human gingival fibroblast growth was also demonstrated.
