Improved MSC Minimal Criteria to Maximize Patient Safety: A Call to Embrace Tissue Factor and Hemocompatibility Assessment of MSC Products

Guido Moll et al.

Summary: The number and types of mesenchymal stromal/stem cell (MSC) therapeutics and clinical applications have greatly increased, but there is also a risk of poorly regulated Stem Cell Clinics offering unproven interventions. It is important to critically evaluate the identity and suitability of MSC products for safe intravascular administration.

IFN-γ and PPARδ influence the efficacy and retention of multipotent adult progenitor cells in graft vs host disease

Fiona Carty et al.

Summary: Cell-based therapy for the treatment of inflammatory disorders has shown efficacy in some but not all patients, highlighting the need for strategies to enhance therapeutic efficacy. Activation of IFN-gamma has been shown to enhance human MAPC efficacy and retention in a model of acute GvHD. Additionally, the involvement of PPAR delta in influencing MAPC efficacy in vivo has been highlighted, suggesting the importance of understanding the disease microenvironment for successful cell-based therapies.

Plasma-polymerized pericyte patches improve healing of murine wounds through increased angiogenesis and reduced inflammation

Hannah M. Thomas et al.

Summary: Pericytes have the potential to improve wound healing by reducing inflammation and promoting angiogenesis. Delivery of Pericytes using surface-functionalized patches was as effective as direct injection, suggesting a clinically relevant approach for wound treatment.
