The fecal and oropharyngeal eukaryotic viromes of healthy infants during the first year of life are personal

Xaira Rivera-Gutierrez et al.

Summary: Using metagenomic sequencing, the diversity and dynamics of the eukaryotic virome in the throat and feces of nine asymptomatic children in a Mexican rural community were explored. The results showed that the children's virome was influenced by the environment, feeding, and age, and was mostly individual. It remains to be studied whether the constant exposure to different viruses has a long-term impact on the children's health and development.

Torque-teno virus for the prediction of graft rejection and infection disease after kidney transplantation: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Jun Zeng et al.

Summary: Torque teno virus (TTV) has the potential to be a novel marker for evaluating acute rejection (AR) and posttransplant infection in kidney transplant recipients. The diagnostic accuracy of TTV for AR is modest, but it performs poorly in discriminating posttransplant infection.

Torque teno virus load as marker of rejection and infection in solid organ transplantation - A systematic review and meta-analysis

A. L. van Rijn et al.

Summary: This review and meta-analysis found an association between blood TTV-load measured within the first 2 years after solid organ transplantation (SOT) and the risk of infection and allograft rejection. However, caution should be taken in interpreting the results due to substantial risk of bias in the included studies. These findings provide a rationale for larger, prospective studies on TTV as a marker of infection and rejection after SOT.

Altered vaginal eukaryotic virome is associated with different cervical disease status

Yanpeng Li et al.

Summary: In this pilot exploratory study, the vaginal eukaryotic virome in women with different levels of cervical lesions was investigated using viral metagenomics. An altered eukaryotic virome was observed in women with different levels of lesions and Lacto-bacillus profiles. Anelloviruses and papillomaviruses were the most commonly detected eukaryotic viruses of the vaginal virome, and their abundance and diversity were associated with low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) and cervical cancer (CC).

Viruses, friends, and foes: The case of Torque Teno Virus and the net state of immunosuppression

Natalia Redondo et al.

Summary: New reliable biomarkers are needed to predict immune-related complications after organ and stem cell transplantation. Torque Teno Virus (TTV) shows promise as a functional surrogate for monitoring immunosuppression, with high prevalence rates and stable viral loads. Studies suggest that increasing TTV DNA levels are associated with infectious complications, while decreasing levels are associated with acute rejection. However, the interpretation in stem cell transplant recipients is complicated by various factors. Standardization of PCR methods and ongoing trials evaluating a TTV load-guided strategy are expected in the future.

Metagenomic Analysis Reveals High Abundance of Torque Teno Mini Virus in the Respiratory Tract of Children with Acute Respiratory Illness

Antonin Bal et al.

Summary: This study analyzed respiratory samples from children with acute respiratory infections of unknown etiology and found a high prevalence of Torque teno mini virus (TTMV) in these samples, as well as in samples with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) or influenza infection. Larger studies are needed to explore the role of TTMV in childhood respiratory diseases.

Comprehensive profiling of antibody responses to the human anellome using programmable phage display

Thiagarajan Venkataraman et al.

Summary: Anelloviruses, a common component of the human virome, have been poorly studied in terms of immunobiology. This study presents AnelloScan, a T7 phage library, to analyze the antibody reactivities of over 800 human anelloviruses. The majority of anellovirus peptides do not elicit a response, while reactive peptides are primarily found in the C-terminal region of the capsid protein ORF1. Furthermore, a longitudinal study reveals that most transmitted anelloviruses do not elicit detectable antibody reactivity in recipients, with delayed responses observed 100-150 days after transfusion.

Deep viral blood metagenomics reveals extensive anellovirus diversity in healthy humans

Maria Cebria-Mendoza et al.

Summary: Human blood metagenomics has revealed the presence of different types of viruses, with anelloviruses being the most frequently found family. A study in Spain confirmed the extensive presence of anelloviruses in blood samples, with nearly 97% of the viral sequence reads belonging to this family. Genomic analysis identified diverse anellovirus strains and suggested potential novel species, challenging the previously suggested pathological role of anelloviruses.

Summary: Alterations in gut virome and increased abundance of certain viruses were observed in HIV-1-infected MSM individuals. Anellovirus and pegivirus were closely related to HIV-1 infection, with their abundance positively correlated with HIV-1 viral load.
