Long-Term Mortality in Patients Transferred by Emergency Medical Services: Prospective Cohort Study

Rodrigo Enriquez de Salamanca Gambara et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to determine the long-term mortality rate of patients transferred by EMS and identify the causes and risk factors. The study included adult patients transferred by ambulance to EDs in Spain from October 2019 to July 2021. Factors such as low Glasgow values, elevated lactate levels, elevated BUN levels, low oxygen saturation, high respiratory rate, old age, and circulatory and neurological diseases were found to be risk factors for long-term mortality. Identifying patients at risk of long-term worsening could help customize care through specific follow-up.

Shock index as a predictor for short-term mortality in helicopter emergency medical services: A registry study

Johannes Bjorkman et al.

Summary: The shock-index is associated with short-term mortality in prehospital settings across various critical patient categories, showing different patterns of association and limitations in predictive value due to overlap of values between survivors and non-survivors.
