A matter of motivation: the impact of enterprise digital transformation on green innovation

Qiuqin He et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of digital transformation on green innovation in Chinese publicly listed firms. The results show that digital transformation strengthens the resource and knowledge bases of green innovation, but its effect differs according to the motivations behind green innovation. Specifically, digital transformation positively affects substantive-driven green innovation but has no effect on strategic-driven green innovation. Furthermore, the study explores the moderating effect of environmental orientation and finds that voluntary-driven environmental orientation positively moderates the relationship between digital transformation and green innovation. These findings contribute to our understanding of the link between strategy decision-making and green innovation performance, with a focus on firms' motivations.

Does green accounting influences ecological sustainability? Evidence from a developing economy

Ishmael Wiredu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of green accounting on ecological sustainability, with environmental costs as a mediator. The focus was on pharmaceutical companies due to their extensive use of natural resources and the resulting greenhouse gases and wastewater, which pose risks to the ecological system. Data was collected through an online questionnaire from 372 respondents affiliated with 35 registered members of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Ghana. PLS-SEM analysis was conducted using SMART-PLS 4 to test the study's hypotheses. The findings indicate that environmental compliance and business efficiency have significant and positive effects on sustainability, and environmental costs mediate the relationship between green accounting and sustainability. The study highlights the importance of policymakers and corporations adopting a holistic and coordinated approach to consider the impacts of their actions on society and the environment.

How does economic complexity affect ecological footprint in G-7 economies: the role of renewable and non-renewable energy consumptions and testing EKC hypothesis

Salim Khan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of economic complexity (ECI) on ecological footprint (EFP) and the role of energy consumption. The findings reveal that increasing economic complexity deteriorates environmental quality, while renewable energy reduces ecological pollution. Additionally, higher demand for non-renewable energy and economic growth both contribute to environmental degradation. The study also confirms a U-shaped association between economic complexity and ecological footprint, suggesting that after a certain threshold, economic complexity mitigates environmental degradation.

Impact of poverty and income inequality on the ecological footprint in Asian developing economies: Assessment of Sustainable Development Goals

Salim Khan et al.

Summary: Poverty, income inequality, and environmental degradation are critical challenges to sustainable development. This study empirically examines the relationship between these factors in 18 Asian developing countries and finds that both poverty and income inequality have detrimental effects on the environment, supporting the inverted U-shaped Environmental Kuznets Curve. The findings have important policy implications for the investigated region.

Effects of energy consumption and ecological footprint on CO2 emissions: an empirical evidence from Pakistan

Sohail Abbas et al.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the effects of traditional energy, renewable energy, ecological footprint, urbanization, and transportation on CO2 emissions, and investigate the association between CO2 emissions and temperature in Pakistan. The results show that traditional energy, ecological footprint, and renewable energy have varying impacts on CO2 emissions in the short and long term, while urbanization and transportation have consistent significant effects on CO2 emissions. Additionally, the study found a positive and significant impact of CO2 emissions, urbanization, and transportation on average temperature in Pakistan in both short and long-term periods.

Spatial analysis of drought severity and magnitude using the standardized precipitation index and streamflow drought index over the Upper Indus Basin, Pakistan

Sohail Abbas et al.

Summary: The study analyzed drought severity and magnitude in the Upper Indus Basin from 1991-2017 using standardized precipitation index and streamflow drought index. Results showed greater impact of droughts in the northeastern side compared to the southwestern side, with strong correlation to El Nino and La Nina in 1997-1998 leading to severe drought from 1998-2002. The findings can assist policymakers in Pakistan in implementing new drought risk reduction measures.
