The CBL-CIPK network is involved in the physiological crosstalk between plant growth and stress adaptation

Jingjing Mao et al.

Summary: Plants have evolved complex signaling pathways to cope with different stresses during plant growth, with Ca2+ transients playing a major physiological role. The CBL-CIPK network is involved in regulating plant development and stress adaptation through direct and indirect crosstalk.

Analysis of DNA methylation in potato tuber in response to light exposure during storage

Yujie Xiong et al.

Summary: In this study, the effect of light exposure on DNA methylation during storage of potato tubers was assessed using methylation-sensitive amplified polymorphism. The results showed that light exposure induced genomewide DNA demethylation, and the rate of DNA methylation decreased with long storage times. The sequencing and analysis of differentially amplified fragments identified several genomic sequences and annotated fragment sequences related to starch biosynthesis and chlorophyll synthesis. The study also observed demethylation in the CpG island of the CAO1 promoter in response to light, further confirming the direct role of DNA methylation in the variations induced by light exposure.

The Potato of the Future: Opportunities and Challenges in Sustainable Agri-food Systems

Andre Devaux et al.

Summary: In the coming decades, substantial improvements to the global food system will be necessary to feed the expanded global population, with the challenge of producing more food with the same or fewer resources and reducing waste. Food security has four dimensions, and the potato crop is seen as a key player in meeting these constraints worldwide. The paper discusses the importance of potato research and innovation in contributing to sustainable agri-food systems, comparing rural and industrial systems and addressing challenges for enhancing sustainable potato cropping.
