Exogenous Application of Methyl Jasmonate Promotes Yield and Grain Quality of Rice under Terminal Drought Stress

Effect of stage-specific and multi-stage drought on grain nutrient quality in rice

Summary: This study assessed the impact of stage-specific and cumulative drought on ionome, starch, and protein contents in grains of two rice genotypes (Sahbhagi Dhan and IR64) in the eastern Indo-Gangetic plain. Drought negatively affected the physiological and nutritional traits of rice grains, causing significant reductions in grain size, weight, starch, amylose, amylopectin, and total soluble protein contents. Drought also led to variations in micro- and macro-nutrient contents in the grains, as well as altered ionomic interactions represented by differential ionomic networks. Sahbhagi Dhan maintained grain quality across drought treatments, making it a suitable donor for breeding drought-tolerant rice varieties in the region.

The Changes in Various Physio-Biochemical Parameters and Yield Traits of Faba Bean Due to Humic Acid Plus 6-Benzylaminopurine Application under Deficit Irrigation

Summary: Implementing deficit irrigation has become a major strategy in crop production, but it can lead to changes in plant physiology and decreased productivity. This study aimed to assess the effects of humic acid and cytokinin on faba bean under water deficit. The results showed that the combination of H-10 and C-25 improved faba bean growth and increased physiological traits under low water supply. The application of H-10 and C-25 also achieved nutrient homeostasis in faba bean under water deficit.

Summary: The study found that applying 60% of crop water requirements with peanut straw mulch or weeding can significantly reduce weed biomass in onion cultivation. Using peanut straw mulch under 80% crop water requirements can achieve acceptable marketable bulb yield, NPK contents, flavonoids content and economic returns comparable to using 100% crop water requirements.
