Anti-Mullerian hormone in queens: Serum concentrations and total ovarian follicle population

C. Lapuente et al.

Summary: The objectives of this study were to report the AMH serum concentrations in female cats at different developmental stages, establish the relationship between serum AMH and age or estrous cycle, and correlate the total number of ovarian follicle types with AMH in adult queens. The results showed that neonatal females had lower AMH serum concentrations than males, and AMH levels increased from neonatal to prepubertal and postpubertal stages. Age was inversely correlated with AMH, and AMH concentrations were lower in females in the follicular phase compared to anestrus females. Small antral follicles had a high correlation with AMH concentrations. It was concluded that AMH can serve as an indirect marker for assessing ovarian follicle size and functionality, and age and pubertal state should be considered when evaluating AMH concentrations in cats.

Role of kisspeptin-10 and betacellulin in control of feline ovarian cell functions

Barbora Loncova et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of betacellulin (BTC) on basic ovarian cell functions and its interaction with kisspeptin (KISS). It was found that the addition of KISS increased cell proliferation, apoptosis, and hormone release, while the addition of BTC decreased these functions and inhibited the stimulatory action of KISS on ovarian functions.

Estrogen and progesterone receptors and antioxidant enzymes are expressed differently in the uterus of domestic cats during the estrous cycle

Acacia Eduarda de Jesus Nascimento et al.

Summary: Sex steroids and antioxidant enzymes play important roles in female sexual development and reproductive functions. This study investigated the expression profile of sex steroid receptors and antioxidant enzymes in the uterus of domestic cats during the estrous cycle. The results showed differential expression of estrogen alpha and progesterone receptors, as well as antioxidant enzymes, in different phases of the cycle. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the mechanism of action of sex steroids and antioxidant enzymes in the uterus of domestic cats.

Serum antimullerian hormone concentrations in female cats. Relation with ovarian remnant syndrome, ovarian cysts and gonadectomy status

Ahmet Gozer et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the serum antimullerian hormone concentrations in cats with ovarian remnant syndrome and ovarian cyst, evaluate the effectiveness of serum AMH concentrations in detecting gonadectomy status, and assess the ovarian expression of AMH in the ovarian cysts and ovarian remnant tissue. The results showed significant differences in serum AMH concentrations between spayed and intact cats, but no difference between cats with ovarian cyst and ovarian remnant syndrome. AMH was not found to play a role in the pathogenesis of ovarian cysts in cats.

Decidual cells and decidualization in the carnivoran endotheliochorial placenta

Monica Elizabeth Diessler et al.

Summary: Decidualization is a distinctive feature of eutherian pregnancy, particularly in carnivores, where decidual stromal cells play a crucial role in placental development and health. These cells are involved in the secretion of progesterone, prostaglandins, and relaxin, and are also implicated in the signaling pathways triggered by these molecules. Understanding placental physiology is vital for medical care, breeding management, and conservation efforts for endangered carnivore species.

Acacia Eduarda de Jesus Nascimento et al.

Summary: Sex steroids and antioxidant enzymes play crucial roles in regulating uterine and placental physiology. This study investigated the expression patterns of receptors for sex steroids and antioxidant enzymes in the maternal-fetal interface of domestic cats. The results showed that the expression of sex steroid receptors and antioxidant enzymes is increased in the uterus during pregnancy, while their expression in the placenta varies according to gestational age.

Clinical use of Anti-Mullerian Hormone to monitor resumption of ovarian activity following removal of a 4.7 mg deslorelin implant in queens

L. Ferre-Dolcet et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of AMH concentrations to predict the resumption of ovarian activity in queens following removal of deslorelin implants. The results showed that AMH concentrations started to rise on the third week and returned to pre-treatment levels on the sixth week post-removal. This suggests that AMH assay can be a useful tool in monitoring the recovery of ovarian function in cats after deslorelin treatment.

Fibroblast growth factor-2 promotes in vitro activation of cat primordial follicles

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) on the morphology, activation, and growth of domestic cat ovarian tissue after in vitro culture. The results showed that 100 ng/ml FGF-2 maintained follicle survival, increased the percentage of developing follicles, and led to larger follicle and oocyte diameters. Overall, FGF-2 at 100 ng/ml was effective in promoting the activation and growth of cat primordial follicles in vitro.

Summary: This study investigated the expression and regulation of AMH and AMHRII in the ovaries of female cats. The results showed that AMH is mainly expressed in granulosa cells of different level follicles and interstitial cells of corpora lutea, while AMHRII is closely co-localized with AMH and strongly expressed in the interstitial cells surrounding follicles undergoing atresia. Furthermore, it was found that serum AMH concentration is highest between day 30 and 50 of gestation, suggesting its association with ovarian activity and follicular atresia.

Anti-M?llerian hormone concentrations in queens throughout the estrous cycle

Ulrike Flock et al.

Summary: Studies have shown the usefulness of anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) as a diagnostic tool for determining the castration status or diagnosing ovarian remnant syndrome in cats and dogs. However, the secretion pattern of AMH during the estrous cycle in female cats has not been investigated. This study examined seven healthy sexually intact female cats and found high variations in AMH levels among individuals and within the same cat's heat cycles. Remarkably high AMH concentrations were observed in younger queens during their first estrous cycles and also during anestrus. Further studies are needed to understand the reasons for these high AMH concentrations, especially in young queens.
