A Combination of Hermetia illucens Reared on Fish Waste and Poultry By-Product Meal Improves Sensory and Physicochemical Quality of Farmed Barramundi Filets

Md Reaz Chaklader et al.

Summary: This study investigated the composition, sensory attributes, and shelf life of barramundi filets fed with diets containing a mixture of poultry by-products meal (PBM) and Hermetia illucens (HI) larvae meal protein. The results showed that the use of PBM and HI as feed increased the crude lipid and monounsaturated fatty acid content, while decreasing the total polyunsaturated fatty acid content in the filets. The skin brightness and redness improved in fish-fed PBM-HI-based diets.

Dietary effects of Clostridium autoethanogenum protein substituting fish meal on growth, intestinal histology and immunity of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) based on transcriptome analysis

Xueran Jiang et al.

Summary: The study found that high inclusion of Clostridium autoethanogenum protein negatively affected the growth and immune function of shrimp, while moderate substitution of fish meal with CAP had no adverse effects on the growth, intestinal histology, and immunity of Pacific white shrimp.

The feasibility of partial replacement fish meal with poultry by-products in practical diets of juvenile great sturgeon, Huso huso: Effects on growth performance, body composition, physiometabolic indices, digestibility and digestive enzymes

Mir Hamed Sayed Hassani et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of adding poultry by-product to the diet on the growth, metabolic indices, and digestive enzymes of juvenile Huso huso. The results showed that replacing fishmeal with PBM could lead to lower growth rates and affect feed utilization efficiency, but within a certain range of replacement, it maintained digestibility.

The effects of replacing fish meal protein with a mixture of poultry by-product meal and fermented soybean meal on the growth performance and tissue nutritional composition of Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer)

Yu-Cong Hong et al.

Summary: The study found that replacing fish meal protein with a mixture of 60% poultry by-product meal and 40% fermented soybean meal can substitute up to 60% of the feed protein without adverse effects on the growth performance of Asian seabass. The different replacements of fish meal protein had varying effects on the weight gain percentage and specific growth rate of the seabass.

Enzymatic tuna hydrolysate supplementation modulates growth, nutrient utilisation and physiological response of pompano (Trachinotus blochii) fed high poultry-by product meal diets

Hung Duc Pham et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that increasing levels of poultry by-product meal in the diets negatively affected growth, feed efficiency, and biochemical composition in juvenile pompano. Supplementing with tuna hydrolysates did not improve these negative effects. Furthermore, histopathological alterations were observed in the liver of fish fed with certain diets.

Blood Performance: A New Formula for Fish Growth and Health

Moha Esmaeili

Summary: The use of haematological and blood biochemistry parameters has become more common in aquaculture studies, as they are effective ways to monitor fish health. A new formula called Blood Performance, which includes five common parameters, has been introduced to provide a more reliable and accurate way to monitor fish health and growth. Monitoring fish health in a repeatable and accurate manner can contribute to the profitability and sustainability of aquaculture.

Effects of Dietary Fishmeal Replacement by Poultry By-Product Meal and Hydrolyzed Feather Meal on Liver and Intestinal Histomorphology and on Intestinal Microbiota of Gilthead Seabream (Sparus aurata)

Pier Psofakis et al.

Summary: The study found that replacing fishmeal with PBM and HFM at 25% generated similar hepatic histomorphology to fish fed on fishmeal, indicating high digestibility of these proteins at low replacement levels. However, higher replacement levels of 50% and 100% resulted in pronounced hepatic alterations, with HFM causing more severe liver damage. Dietary amino acid supplementation improved tissue histology at high replacement levels. Intestinal microbiota was dominated by Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria in all dietary groups, with high variability observed among individuals.
