A panel of seven protein tumour markers for effective and affordable multi-cancer early detection by artificial intelligence: a large-scale and multicentre case-control study

Yi Luan et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the performance and robustness of a new protein assay for cancer early detection in low- and middle-income countries. The assay utilized artificial intelligence to identify cancer patients based on protein markers and clinical information, as well as predict the tissue of origin. The results showed high specificity and sensitivity, and the assay performed well for various cancer types.

An artificial intelligence model to predict hepatocellular carcinoma risk in Korean and Caucasian patients with chronic hepatitis B

Hwi Young Kim et al.

Summary: A new artificial intelligence-assisted prediction model of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) risk has been developed using a gradient-boosting machine algorithm, showing superior predictive power in Korean and Caucasian patients. The model is able to identify a group of patients at minimal risk of developing HCC.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Effects of EFNA1 on cell phenotype and prognosis of esophageal carcinoma

Yongqiang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the expression and clinical significance of EFNA1 in various tumors, particularly in ESCA. Results showed that EFNA1 overexpression in ESCA tissue is related to patients' prognosis, and knocking down EFNA1 can significantly inhibit the proliferation of ESCA cells. Pathway enrichment analysis revealed that EFNA1 related genes are significantly enriched in the proliferative pathway.

Oncogenic enhancers drive esophageal squamous cell carcinogenesis and metastasis

Bo Ye et al.

Summary: The study identified numerous gained or lost enhancers in ESCC and LNC, contributing to transcriptomic aberrations and revealing putative driver onco-transcription factors. Inhibitors targeting the gained super-enhancers predicted HSP90AA1 and PDE4B as potential therapeutic targets for ESCC. Epigenomic profiling provides insights into reprogrammed cis-regulatory elements during ESCC carcinogenesis and metastasis, offering promising targets for cancer treatment.

Cis-acting super-enhancer lncRNAs as biomarkers to early-stage breast cancer

Ali S. Ropri et al.

Summary: Increased breast cancer screening has led to a rise in DCIS diagnosis, emphasizing the need to identify factors influencing DCIS progression to IDC. SE-lncRNAs, which can regulate nearby gene expression, represent novel therapeutic targets. Integrative analysis and cross-referencing with databases revealed differential expression of SE-lncRNAs and alterations in super-enhancers associated with breast cancer progression.
