Differential regulation of the Tor gene homolog drives the red/green pigmentation phenotype in the aphid Myzus persicae

Nasser Trissi et al.

Summary: In some aphid species, intraspecific variation in body colour is caused by differential carotenoid content. The green aphids contain only yellow carotenoids, while the red aphids possess red carotenoids in addition to yellow carotenoids. The green peach aphid, Myzus persicae, has an enlarged repertoire of carotenoid biosynthetic genes compared to the pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum, and both red and green aphids have functional carotene desaturase 2 (CDE-2). However, expression differences between the two colour morphs underpin the phenotype.

Comprehensive Transcriptome Analysis of Different Skin Colors to Evaluate Genes Related to the Production of Pigment in Celestial Goldfish

Rongni Li et al.

Summary: In this study, high-throughput sequencing was performed on the back skin tissue of celestial goldfish with different skin colors, revealing the important role of melanin production, tyrosine metabolism pathway, Wnt signaling pathway, and MAPK signaling pathway in pigmentation. The study provides valuable data for screening candidate genes involved in pigment formation and lays a foundation for further research on the expression characteristics and gene network analysis of pigment related genes.

Transcriptome Characterization of Pigment-Related Genes in Jujube (Ziziphus Jujuba Mill.) Peel at Different Growth Stages

Shipeng Li et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the gene expression characteristics and regulation related to pigment formation in jujube fruit at three growth stages using transcriptome sequencing analysis. The results identified differentially expressed genes related to chlorophyll, carotenoid, and anthocyanin metabolic pathways, and confirmed the accuracy of the transcriptome data using qRT-PCR.

Long-wave opsin involved in body color plastic development in Nilaparvata lugens

Jia-Bao Lu et al.

Summary: In this study, four opsins were identified in the Nilaparvata lugens genome and one of them was found to be involved in the regulation of cuticle melanization, revealing the cross-talk between the gene pathways underlying the visual system and the morphological differentiation in insects.

The impact of species-wide gene expression variation on Caenorhabditis elegans complex traits

Gaotian Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the association between genetic variation and gene expression variation in C. elegans, linking gene expression to organismal trait differences. The authors identify regulatory loci underlying gene expression variation and demonstrate how this variation could impact complex traits.

Transcription response of Tetranychus cinnabarinus to plant-mediated short-term and long -term selenium treatment

Zhifeng Xu et al.

Summary: Selenium was found to stabilize gene expression in spider mites during treatment, with the 20 mu M sodium selenite treatment eliciting the largest response. There was no significant difference in functional annotation classification of differentially expressed genes under different concentrations and treatment durations. Additionally, some genes showed differential expression in all treatments, suggesting selenium may impact the activity of spider mites.

Comparative genome and transcriptome analyses reveal innate differences in response to host plants by two color forms of the two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae

Shi-Mei Huo et al.

Summary: Our study revealed that different forms of T. urticae exhibit distinct host-specific transcription responses, and there is form-dependent plasticity in their transcriptomic responses. Genes associated with saliva, digestion, and detoxification showed form-dependent responses to the same host, with host-specific expression effects. Fitness differences on hosts are influenced by both color form and other population differences.

The potential pigmentation-related genes in spider mites revealed by comparative transcriptomes of the red form of Tetranychus urticae

S-M Huo et al.

Summary: The study found that the body color divergence between the two forms of spider mites is caused by different expressions of pigmentation-related genes, and a novel cytochrome P450 gene may play a role in regulating red-orange body color.
