Chemical Composition and Biological Activities of Eucalyptus globulus Essential Oil

Summary: This study analyzed the chemical composition and various biological activities of Eucalyptus globulus essential oil (EGEO). The main components of EGEO were identified as 1,8-cineole, p-cimene, α-pinene, and α-limonene. The results showed that EGEO exhibited significant antimicrobial, antibiofilm, antioxidant, and insecticidal activities.

Fumigant insecticidal activity of plant essential oils against pest blister beetle Epicauta atomaria (Germar) (Coleoptera: Meloidae)

Summary: This study aims to determine the fumigant insecticidal activity of a screening of plant essential oils against E. atomaria and identify the chemical composition of the essential oils with greater toxicity. The results show that Mentha spicata, Salvia rosmarinus, Laurus nobilis, and Pascalia glauca essential oils exhibit strong fumigant activity against E. atomaria.

Efficacy of encapsulated and non-encapsulated thyme essential oil (Thymus vulgaris L.) in the control of Sitophilus zeamais and its effects on the quality of corn grains throughout storage

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of encapsulated and nonencapsulated thyme essential oil on the mortality and persistence of Sitophilus zeamais and the quality parameters of corn grains. The results showed that encapsulated thyme essential oil had the greatest effect on insect mortality and repellent effect against Sitophilus zeamais. The application of essential oils did not impact the quality characteristics of corn grains.

Efficacy of 12 commercial essential oils as wheat protectants against stored-product beetles, and their acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity

Summary: The study evaluated the insecticidal effect of 12 essential oils as grain protectants against four different types of beetles. Certain essential oils, such as clove, cardamom, and tansy, showed high toxicity against specific beetle species, suggesting their potential for developing novel insecticides. The essential oils also exhibited inhibitory action against acetylcholinesterase, indicating alternative mechanisms of action beyond insecticidal properties.
