Harvested Energy Prediction Technique for Solar-Powered Wireless Sensor Networks

Irradiance and Temperature Forecasting for Energy Harvesting Units in IoT Sensors using SARIMA-KF

Summary: Although the market valuation and adoption of IoT in various sectors is increasing, there is still a lag in actual deployment compared to the industrial forecasted data. The limited battery capacities of IoT devices are the main reason for this. To address this issue, this paper proposes a prediction system that consumes less energy and can be deployed on low computational nodes. The system uses a Seasonal Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA) model with a Kalman filtering (KF) component to predict variables. The effectiveness of the model is demonstrated using real dataset from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and the SARIMA-KF outperforms SARIMA in all scenarios with an average error reduction of 59.3%.

Further studies are recommended to assess the feasibility and economics of using SLB.
