Agricultural restructuring for reducing carbon emissions from residents? dietary consumption in China

Ziyue Yu et al.

Summary: In an effort to combat climate change, China aims to reach its peak carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. However, achieving these goals will require a significant reduction in carbon emissions. This study combines food consumption, climate change, and agricultural structure to design future scenarios and suggests dietary restructuring and agricultural restructuring to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Embodied land in China's provinces from the perspective of regional trade

Shaojian Wang et al.

Summary: With the improvement of regional connectivity, the utilization of land resources through trade has become increasingly important. However, research on this topic is still limited. This study uses a multi-regional input-output model to analyze the embodied land in different regions of China and its spatial pattern. The results show that inter-regional trade accounts for 21.39% of China's total land, with provinces relying on land imports for 38.54% of their land demand. The flow of agricultural land shows a shift from west to east and from north to south. Additionally, a significant portion of China's land resources is provided to foreign countries through international trade. This study provides useful insights for achieving sustainable land use in China.

A 130-year global inventory of methane emissions from livestock: Trends, patterns, and drivers

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: Livestock contributes approximately one-third of global anthropogenic methane (CH4) emissions, and the emissions have quadrupled in the past 130 years. The growth in emissions has been mainly driven by the cattle sector, with South Asia, tropical Africa, and Brazil leading the increase in recent decades. Changes in population and national income, as well as policies, diet shifts, livestock productivity improvement, and international trade, have influenced livestock methane emissions. The geospatial information on emissions helps identify hotspots and patterns, guiding meaningful methane mitigation practices in the livestock sector at both local and global scales.

China's agricultural green total factor productivity based on carbon emission: An analysis of evolution trend and influencing factors

Dongdong Liu et al.

Summary: Through studying the development trend and influencing factors of China's agricultural green total factor productivity, it is found that agricultural carbon emissions are decreasing with fertilizers being the main source of emissions and increasing differences among provinces. To improve green agricultural productivity and promote high-quality economic development, measures such as promoting clean agricultural production, strengthening research and development in agriculture are necessary.
