Modulation format recognition using CNN-based transfer learning models

Safie El-Din Nasr Mohamed et al.

Summary: In this paper, a model built with the Hough transform is proposed to improve modulation format recognition. Experimental results show that the proposed model can accurately recognize wireless optical modulation formats even at low signal-to-noise ratios.

Robust Liquid Level Control of Quadruple Tank System: A Nonlinear Model-Free Approach

Zahraa Sabah Hashim et al.

Summary: Two new versions of modified active disturbance rejection control (MADRC) are proposed to stabilize a nonlinear quadruple tank system and control the water levels of the lower two tanks in the presence of disturbances, uncertainties, and varying set-points. The proposed schemes combine modified tracking differentiators, super twisting sliding mode, nonlinear extended state observers, and fal-function-based ESO. Simulations and comparison experiments are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed control schemes, and genetic algorithm is used for parameter tuning. The simulation results show a noticeable reduction in the output performance index, indicating the robustness of the proposed schemes.

Energy Performance Curves Prediction of Centrifugal Pumps Based on Constrained PSO-SVR Model

Huican Luo et al.

Summary: This study proposes a multi-condition performance prediction method for centrifugal pumps by introducing performance constraints, which effectively predicts the performance of centrifugal pumps under different operating conditions and is compared with experimental results. The support vector regression model performs better in predicting performance curves.

A Comparative Study of Probabilistic and Deterministic Methods for the Direct and Indirect Costs in Life-Cycle Cost Analysis for Airport Pavements

Peyman Babashamsi et al.

Summary: Airports play a critical role in the growth of the world economy, and maintaining and improving airport pavement functions require substantial investments. A comprehensive airport pavement management system should consider both direct and indirect costs in life-cycle cost analysis, enabling better decision-making through economic analysis.

Design of Adaptive Fractional-Order Fixed-Time Sliding Mode Control for Robotic Manipulators

Saim Ahmed et al.

Summary: This study proposes an adaptive fractional-order non-singular fixed-time terminal sliding mode (AFoFxNTSM) control for robotic manipulators with external disturbances. By combining the advantages of fractional-order parameter and NTSM, rapid convergence, non-singularity, and chatter-free control inputs are achieved. The unknown dynamics of the system caused by uncertainties and bounded external disturbances are considered through an adaptive control strategy. The stability of the closed-loop system over a fixed time is verified through Lyapunov analysis.

Life cycle cost analysis of a computerized numerical control machine tool: a case study from Indian manufacturing industry

Rajkumar Bhimgonda Patil et al.

Summary: This paper presents a generalized framework for LCC analysis of repairable systems using reliability and maintainability principles. The analysis of a typical computerized numerical control turning center (CNCTC) reveals that procurement decisions should be based on LCC, and optimal utilization of consumables can save operation costs. Through attention to parameters at the product design stage, failure and support costs can be reduced.
