FT-IR characteristics, phenolic profiles and inhibitory potential against digestive enzymes of 25 herbal infusions

Prinya Wongsa et al.

Summary: The present study used FT-IR spectroscopy and UHPLC techniques to analyze the vibrational characteristics and concentration of phenolic compounds in 25 herbal plants. The results showed that these plants are rich in phenolic compounds, with caffeic acid being the predominant compound. The herbal infusions demonstrated potential to inhibit digestive enzymes, which could be beneficial for combating type 2 diabetes and obesity.

Improved mechanical, physical and biological properties of chitosan films using Aloe vera and electrospun PVA nanofibers for wound dressing applications

Shirin Rafieian et al.

Summary: The combination of natural polymers such as chitosan and Aloe vera with synthetic polymer PVA can improve mechanical properties of wound dressings. A simple method for incorporating PVA nanofibers with Aloe vera-containing chitosan films is introduced in this work, leading to an affordable, biocompatible, and flexible film for wound dressing applications. The biological and physical properties of the films were evaluated through various tests and the results showed promising outcomes.

Development of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose based polymeric microparticles for in situ hydrogel wound dressing formation

Cinzia Pagano et al.

Summary: 18 beta-glycyrrhetinic acid (Gly), a natural compound obtained from licorice, is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, and has been formulated into polymeric bioadhesive microparticles (MP) to promote wound healing by forming a hydrogel in situ when in contact with exudate. The controlled release of Gly from the hydrogel stimulates keratinocyte growth, potentially supporting the physiological healing processes.
