Rapid culture-independent loop-mediated isothermal amplification detection of antimicrobial resistance markers from environmental water samples

Marwa M. Hassan et al.

Summary: Environmental water is a major route for the transmission of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and poses a growing threat to human and animal health. This study used comparative genomics to identify the prevalence of AMR genes in several bacteria and developed a rapid and sensitive method for detecting these genes in water samples. The developed assays successfully detected five AMR gene markers within 1 hour and can be easily implemented in resource-limited areas to enhance AMR surveillance and diagnostics.

Advanced nano biosensors for rapid detection of zoonotic bacteria

Azam Ahangari et al.

Summary: Zoonosis refers to infectious diseases transmitted between animals and humans. Rapid and accurate detection of bacterial pathogens is crucial for preventing the spread of these diseases. Conventional diagnostic methods have limitations in terms of time, cost, and equipment requirements. Biosensors, empowered by nanoparticles, have shown promise as a simple, innovative, and cost-effective tool for detecting zoonotic bacteria.

Validation of Point-of-Care Device for Rapid Detection of Salmonella enterica in Meat Products

Aaydha Chidambara Vinayaka et al.

Summary: Accurate and rapid detection of pathogens in animal-origin foods is crucial for the One Health Action Plan of the EU. We developed a LAMP-based point-of-care device called VETPOD for detecting Salmonella spp. The VETPOD uses a unique cartridge with pyramid-shaped optical structures for light detection, achieving comparable results to the ISO 6579-1 reference method with high sensitivity (96.51%) and specificity.

Point-of-care diagnosis of invasive non-typhoidal Salmonella enterica in bloodstream infections using immunomagnetic capture and loop-mediated isothermal amplification

Aaydha C. Vinayaka et al.

Summary: Invasive non-typhoidal salmonellosis is gaining attention as an emerging disease cluster, particularly among immunocompromised and malnourished children. Point-of-care diagnostics hold promise for use in low infrastructure laboratory settings, but face challenges in dealing with the complexity of blood matrices.

Point-of-care system for rapid real-time detection of SARS-CoV-2 virus based on commercially available Arduino platforms

Huynh Van Ngoc et al.

Summary: This study developed a fluorescence-based portable detection system for rapid and quantitative detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The system, built on the Arduino platform, demonstrated real-time detection capability and showed excellent agreement with a commercial thermocycler. It has the potential to greatly enhance the practical applicability for on-site screening of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Multiplexed Detection of Pathogens Using Solid-Phase Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification on a Supercritical Angle Fluorescence Array for Point-of-Care Applications

Than Linh Quyen et al.

Summary: In this study, a solid-phase loop-mediated isothermal amplification (SP-LAMP) technique was developed, which integrated with supercritical angle fluorescence (SAF) micro-optic structures to achieve multiplex detection of pathogens. By optimizing key parameters, multiple pathogens were successfully detected and demonstrated good multiplexing capacity. The success of this technique opens up a promising direction for rapid detection of multiple pathogens.
