Cooperation between Prostaglandin E2 and Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor in Cancer Progression: A Dual Target for Cancer Therapy

Federica Finetti et al.

Summary: Inflammation is a biological response to damaging stimuli, and its chronic form is associated with diseases like cancer. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is a key lipid mediator in chronic inflammation and directly contributes to tumor development by regulating cancer cell activities. The expression of enzymes involved in PGE2 synthesis is closely related to tumor progression and aggressiveness, highlighting the importance of this pathway in cancer.

EGF promotes PKM2 O-GlcNAcylation by stimulating O-GlcNAc transferase phosphorylation at Y976 and their subsequent association

Yang Wang et al.

Summary: Epidermal growth factor (EGF) regulates O-GlcNAcylation of PKM2 by promoting phosphorylation at the T405/S406 sites, thereby affecting the detetramerization and activity of PKM2, playing a crucial role in metabolic reprogramming.

Targeting the EGF receptor family in non-small cell lung cancer-increased complexity and future perspectives

Tobias Boch et al.

Summary: Lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, has seen significant improvement in treatment options with the emergence of targeted therapies. Activating EGFR mutations are frequent in NSCLC, and small molecule TKIs are the first line treatment for tumors with typical EGFR mutations. HER2 and other ERBB receptors are also important targets. Current treatment standards are evolving rapidly, with prospects of future breakthroughs.

Endometrial Cancer in Pre-Menopausal Women and Younger: Risk Factors and Outcome

Nurliza Abdol Manap et al.

Summary: This study aims to determine the clinical characteristics, risk factors, outcomes, and survival of pre and postmenopausal women with endometrial cancer in Malaysia. The study found that endometrial cancer is more common among premenopausal women and they tend to be younger, with higher incidences of obesity, early age at menarche, lower parity, and concomitant endometrial hyperplasia. The premenopausal group also had a higher mean survival compared to the postmenopausal group.

Oncological outcomes in fertility-sparing treatment in stage IA-G2 endometrial cancer

Carlo Ronsini et al.

Summary: Conservative management can be considered as an option for young women with grade 2, stage IA endometrial cancer who wish to preserve their fertility. The combination of levonorgestrel-releasing intra-uterine device and systemic therapy can result in a high rate of complete response. However, fertility-sparing treatment is not the current standard of care for young women with endometrial cancer.

Physical activity, obesity and sedentary behavior in cancer etiology: epidemiologic evidence and biologic mechanisms

Christine M. Friedenreich et al.

Summary: Physical activity, sedentary behavior, and obesity are closely related to cancer incidence, with higher levels of physical activity, reduced sedentary behavior, and maintaining a healthy weight being associated with lower cancer risk. The main biological mechanisms linking these factors to cancer incidence include effects on endogenous sex steroids and metabolic hormones, insulin sensitivity, and chronic inflammation.
