Imaging Findings of Calcaneal Cyst and Lipoma: Can Intraosseous Cyst Changes Into Lipoma With Advancing Age?

Masaya Kawaguchi et al.

Summary: This study found that calcaneal cysts were more common in the pediatric group with water/soft tissue density on CT, while calcaneal lipomas were more common in the adult group with fat density on CT. Additionally, MRI showed a higher prevalence of cystic components in the pediatric group and fat components in the adult group.

Open Curettage With Bone Augmentation for Symptomatic Tumors and Tumor-like Lesions of Calcaneus: A Comparison of Bioactive Glass Versus Allogeneic Bone

Hongdong Ma et al.

Summary: This study compared the clinical outcomes of patients treated with 45S5 Bioglass (R) or allogeneic bone for calcaneal tumors and tumor-like lesions, finding that 45S5 Bioglass (R) can better facilitate new bone formation with a faster incision drying time. Further studies are needed to investigate long-term complications and lesion recurrence rates.

Pathological fracture of a solitary bone cyst in the calcaneus: a case series and literature review

Manabu Hoshi et al.

Summary: Clinical data of 21 patients with calcaneal bone cysts were retrospectively reviewed, showing an association between cyst ratio and clinical symptoms and pathological fractures. MRI and gross findings revealed haemorrhage in the cystic fluid. Repeated microfractures and spontaneous healing might occur in calcaneal bone cysts.
