Summary: Photobiomodulation has analgesic effects by inhibiting nerve activity. This study examined the effects of laser irradiation on the spinal dorsal horn of rats. The results showed that laser irradiation inhibited neuronal firing in the lamina II of the spinal dorsal horn for a period of 3 hours.

Photophysical Mechanisms of Photobiomodulation Therapy as Precision Medicine

Summary: Despite the focus on the mechanisms of photobiomodulation (PBM), its complex functions are not fully understood. This review proposes several mechanisms of PBM that are not dependent on cytochrome c oxidase, including the photophysical aspects of PBM and the interactions with biophotons and mechanotransductive processes. These hypotheses are contingent on the effect of light on ion channels and the cytoskeleton, the production of biophotons, and the properties of light and biological molecules.

Efficacy of Photobiomodulation Therapy in the Treatment of Pain and Inflammation: A Literature Review

Summary: The objective of this literature review was to analyze the efficacy of low level laser therapy (PBM) in treating chronic pain and inflammation and assess the quality of the collected literature. A search was conducted using five databases and 11 articles were selected for analysis, all of which were randomized controlled trials. The results indicate that PBM can positively influence chronic pain, although the effects may be short term. Improvement in inflammation was also observed in some studies. However, more research is needed to clarify the benefits and limitations of PBM in treating chronic pain and inflammation.

Efficacy of photobiomodulation in reducing pain and improving the quality of life in patients with idiopathic burning mouth syndrome. A systematic review and meta-analysis

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the effect of photobiomodulation on pain relief and the oral health-related quality of life in patients with burning mouth syndrome. The results showed that photobiomodulation, particularly red laser protocols, led to improvement in pain and quality of life. Red laser was more effective than infrared laser in relieving pain and improving quality of life.

Inhibition of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 and transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 by mosquito and mouse saliva

Summary: Mosquitoes can easily spread deadly diseases through their painless skin piercing, and the inhibition of pain by their saliva may be attributed to antinociceptive substances. The study found that mosquito head homogenates and mouse saliva inhibit TRPV1 and TRPA1 channels, which play a role in detecting pain stimuli. Sialorphin, a peptide found in mosquito head homogenates and mouse saliva, showed similar inhibition effects on these channels. The findings suggest the universal antinociceptive effects of mosquito saliva and may contribute to the development of safe and novel antinociceptive agents.
