Endoscopic Bridge-and-Seal of Bile Leaks Using a Fully Covered Self-Expandable Metallic Stent above the Papilla

Koshiro Fukuda et al.

Summary: This retrospective study investigated the safety and effectiveness of using FCSEMS to bridge and seal postoperative bile leaks above the papilla. The technical success rate of FCSEMS placement was 100%, and bile leaks were resolved in 5 out of 7 patients. Some adverse events were observed after the removal of FCSEMS.

Fully covered metal biliary stents: A review of the literature

Summary: Fully covered self-expandable metal stents (FCSEMS) are the latest advancement in the endoscopic treatment of obstructive biliary pathology. They offer a larger diameter and synthetic covering to prolong patency, reduce risks, and are easily removable. Their application has shown significant benefits in both benign and malignant biliary strictures, biliary leaks, and post-sphincterotomy bleeding.
