Devices and Treatments to Address Low Adherence in Glaucoma Patients: A Narrative Review

Summary: Poor adherence to topical glaucoma medications is detrimental to the visual field outcomes in glaucoma patients. Various barriers to adherence, such as forgetfulness and medication side effects, need to be overcome to slow down disease progression. Preservative-free medications and sustained drug delivery systems show promise in reducing ocular surface disease symptoms and improving adherence. Smart drug delivery-connected devices and minimally invasive glaucoma procedures are potential solutions to aid in adherence and improve monitoring and treatment.

Influence of Overhanging Bleb on Corneal Higher-Order Aberrations after Trabeculectomy

Summary: This study aimed to examine the effects of overhanging bleb on corneal higher-order aberrations. The findings showed that overhanging bleb after trabeculectomy increased corneal coma aberrations and coma-like aberrations. As the ratio of cornea covered by the bleb increased, all corneal higher-order aberrations, except for coma-like aberrations, also increased.

The results showed significant differences in pH value, osmolality, and surface tension among the products, but it did not affect cell survival or mucin release. Clinical studies are needed to assess the long-term effects on efficacy and safety.

Although the age-standardized prevalence of avoidable blindness decreased, avoidable moderate and severe vision impairment did not change.
