Data quality and auditing within the Netherlands Heart Registration: using the PCI registry as an example

S. Houterman et al.

Summary: The aim of this article is to present the method and results of the data quality control system and audit within the Netherlands Heart Registration (NHR) using data of patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in the Netherlands as an example. The study found that the overall quality of the data is high, with a high consistency for all variables except for multivessel disease.

Differences in Outcome of Patients with Cardiogenic Shock Associated with In-Hospital or Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest

Jonas Rusnak et al.

Summary: Cardiogenic shock (CS) patients with in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) have higher 30-day all-cause mortality compared to those with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). This association is primarily driven by patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), while IHCA is not associated with mortality in non-AMI patients. Multivariable analysis confirms that IHCA is solely associated with higher 30-day all-cause mortality in AMI patients, but not in the non-AMI group and CAD subgroups. CS patients with IHCA and AMI have significantly increased all-cause mortality at 30 days, while there is no difference when differentiated by CAD.

Using real-world data to monitor and improve quality of care in coronary artery disease: results from the Netherlands Heart Registration

Marijke J. C. Timmermans et al.

Summary: Quality registries for cardiovascular diseases worldwide play a significant role in monitoring and improving the quality of cardiac care. The Netherlands Heart Registration (NHR) provides insight into its governance and processes in collaboration with hospitals. The committees in NHR determine standard variables and discuss data completeness, quality, and patient-relevant outcomes. Quality projects are initiated to further improve patient outcomes.

Predictive Model and Risk Score for In-Hospital Mortality in Patients with All-Cause Cardiogenic Shock Santiago Shock Score (S3)

Federico Garcia-Rodeja Arias et al.

Summary: The study aimed to establish a risk score for stratifying the risk of in-hospital mortality in patients with cardiogenic shock. The S3 score showed good accuracy in predicting in-hospital mortality and could help guide treatment and clinical decision making in these patients. Risk categories of low, intermediate, and high were created according to the S3 score.

Non-STEMI vs. STEMI Cardiogenic Shock: Clinical Profile and Long-Term Outcomes

Maria Jose Martinez et al.

Summary: Cardiogenic shock is a severe complication of acute myocardial infarction. This study analyzed the clinical profile, acute-phase prognosis, and long-term outcomes of cardiogenic shock patients based on the ST pattern on admission. It was found that patients with elevated ST segment had higher 30-day mortality, but no differences in long-term outcomes were observed.

Cardiogenic shock: incidence, survival and mechanical circulatory support usage 2007-2017-insights from a national registry

Corinna N. Lang et al.

Summary: A study in a German university hospital found that the incidence and use of MCS in treating cardiogenic shock patients have increased over the past decade, while hospital survival rates remain low. There are significant differences in in-hospital survival rates among different types of MCS devices.
