Assessing reliability and validity of different stiffness measurement tools on a multi-layered phantom tissue model

Katja Bartsch et al.

Summary: This study compares the reliability of different stiffness measurement tools on a multi-layered phantom tissue model. The results showed that Shore Durometer, STCM, IndentoPRO, and MyotonPRO were able to reliably detect stiffness changes in three layers of the tissue, while ultrasound imaging could only measure stiffness changes in layers thicker than 3 mm.

Immediate Effects of Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization on Hydration Content in Lumbar Myofascial Tissues: A Quasi-Experiment

Andreas Brandl et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the influence of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) on the water content of the thoracolumbar fascia (TLF) in lumbar myofascial tissue. Results showed a significant increase in bioimpedance after IASTM intervention, indicating a decrease in water content in the lumbar myofascial tissue. Further randomized control trials are needed to validate these findings in symptomatic populations and confirm the reliability of bioimpedance analysis (BIA) in myofascial tissue.

Immediate Effects of Myofascial Release Treatment on Lumbar Microcirculation: A Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Trial

Andreas Brandl et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the immediate effects of myofascial release techniques on the blood flow of lumbar myofascial tissue and evaluate the influence of myofascial morphology, physical activity, and body mass index on these parameters. The results showed that the myofascial release group had a significant increase in blood flow after treatment and at follow-up compared with the placebo group. There were strong correlations between body mass index, physical activity, myofascial morphology, and blood flow.

Pressure Pain Threshold of the Upper Trapezius Trigger Point: A Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis of Baseline Values and Their Modification after Physical Therapy

Tommaso Geri et al.

Summary: The study found that the PPT at TrP sites was lower compared to healthy muscles, and that physical therapy interventions can increase the PPT. However, the clinical relevance of this decreased PPT needs further clarification, and the high risk of bias in all the retrieved studies may impact the validity of the results.

Reliability of a New Indentometer Device for Measuring Myofascial Tissue Stiffness

Virginija Koch et al.

Summary: Changes in tissue stiffness are associated with pathological conditions and performance indicators. Indentometry is an affordable way to assess tissue stiffness, and this study evaluated the reliability of the IndentoPro device in assessing calf tissue stiffness.
