Prevalence of Genetic Diamine Oxidase (DAO) Deficiency in Female Patients with Fibromyalgia in Spain

Guelsah Okutan et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the prevalence of DAO deficiency in Spanish women with fibromyalgia and compare it with the European population. Results showed a DAO deficiency prevalence of 74.5% based on four AOC1 gene variants. The allele and genotypic frequencies did not differ from the European population, suggesting that AOC1 gene variants associated with DAO deficiency could be a potential biomarker for fibromyalgia.

The anticholinergic burden: from research to practice

Sarah Hilmer et al.

Summary: Drugs with anticholinergic effects can cause adverse reactions and contribute to cognitive decline and functional loss in older people. Many non-anticholinergic drugs also have anticholinergic effects, leading to an increased anticholinergic burden. Clinicians should use assessment tools to identify at-risk patients. Deprescribing anticholinergic drugs can have various potential benefits for older people.
