Effect of Intensity of Home Noninvasive Ventilation in Individuals With Neuromuscular and Chest Wall Disorders: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Individual Participant Data

Mathieu Delorme et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of intensity of home noninvasive ventilation (NIV) on respiratory outcomes in patients with slowly progressive neuromuscular or chest-wall disorders. The results showed that NIV intensity was not associated with improvement in carbon dioxide levels, but daily NIV usage was key to improving hypoventilation.

Noninvasive Ventilation Automated Technologies: A Bench Evaluation of Device Responses to Sleep-Related Respiratory Events

Mathieu Delorme et al.

Summary: A study found that current noninvasive ventilation devices have varied responses and scoring of sleep-related respiratory events. Further improvements in algorithms are needed to enable more widespread initiation and follow-up of domiciliary noninvasive ventilation.

Monitoring Long Term Noninvasive Ventilation: Benefits, Caveats and Perspectives

Jean-Paul Janssens et al.

Summary: This article summarized the current knowledge in the field of monitoring during home ventilation and emphasized the effectiveness of long term noninvasive ventilation (LTNIV) for chronic hypercapnic respiratory failure (CHRF). By remotely adjusting ventilator settings and combining with other monitoring tools, patient comfort and tolerance can be improved, and hospital admissions can be reduced.

Ventilator integrated polygraphy for patients using non-invasive ventilation; Case report

Helena Lopez-Brull et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a review of home respiratory services and the development of new solutions. The Vivo 45 (TM) ventilator allows clinicians to attach effort belts and monitor patients at home and in the hospital. We report three cases demonstrating the benefits of ventilator integrated polygraphy.

Optimal NIV Medicare Access Promotion: Patients With Hypoventilation Syndromes A Technical Expert Panel Report From the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Association for Respiratory Care, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and the American Thoracic Society

Babak Mokhlesi et al.

Summary: The coverage criteria for home noninvasive ventilation (NIV) do not acknowledge the diversity of hypoventilation syndromes and technological advances. The Technical Expert Panel identifies key barriers and proposes crucial suggestions to improve timely access to NIV for patients, particularly those with obesity hypoventilation syndrome. Adopting these suggestions would lead to better management and appropriate therapy for Medicare beneficiaries.

REINVENT: ERS International survey on REstrictive thoracic diseases IN long term home noninvasive VENTilation

Paola Pierucci et al.

Summary: An international survey conducted by the European Respiratory Society's Assembly 2.02 focused on the use of long-term home noninvasive ventilation (LTHNIV) in patients with restrictive thoracic diseases. The study found that neuromuscular disorders (NMD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis were the main indications for LTHNIV, with clinicians emphasizing patient-centered benefits and quality of life/sleep improvement when choosing ventilation strategies.
