Acetabular cup fixation with and without screws following primary total hip arthroplasty: migration evaluated by radiostereometric analysis

Jennifer S. Polus et al.

Summary: The use of screws for cup fixation in total hip arthroplasty was found to have a significant effect on cup migration. Cups fixed with only 1 screw showed greater migration compared to those with no screws or 2 screws, although the mean magnitude was still below the threshold for unacceptable migration.

A Comprehensive Research on the Prevalence and Evolution Trend of Orthopedic Surgeries in Romania

Flaviu Moldovan et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the annual volumes of orthopedic surgeries in Romania from 2001 to 2022 using data from the National Endoprosthetic Registry. The results show increasing trends in surgical interventions and highlight the anticipated need for more medical personnel and material resources.

THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY TO ACHIEVE THE FUNCTIONAL ACETABULAR SAFE ZONE IN TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY

Eric N. Windsor et al.

Summary: Functional acetabular safe zones based on patient-specific factors during total hip arthroplasty are believed to improve component stability compared to traditional safe zones. Preoperative planning should consider functional pelvic positions and spinopelvic mobility. Computer navigation and robotics can be used to accurately achieve the targeted cup position within the functional safe zone.

Impaction Grafting Is Sufficient to Address Acetabular Deficiency During Total Hip Arthroplasty of Most Dysplastic Hips With Over 30% Bone Defect

Javad Khaje Mozafari et al.

Summary: This study assessed the outcomes of using impaction or structural graft to address acetabular deficiency during arthroplasty of dysplastic hips. The results showed that majority of the patients with over 30% defect can be treated with a cementless cup and impaction grafting, with good midterm results. In about 20% of cases, a structural support-like shelf graft is required.

Efficacy and Safety of Acetabular Cup without Screw Fixation in Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Takanori Miura et al.

Summary: There is currently no consensus on the use of screw fixation in total hip arthroplasty for acetabular cups. This study found that using acetabular cups without screw fixation had little to no effect on reoperation, cup migration, and Harris Hip Score. Further large-scale studies with low risk of bias are needed to confirm these findings.

Does Cup Position at the High Hip Center or Anatomic Hip Center in THA for Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip Result in Better Harris Hip Scores and Revision Incidence? A Systematic Review

Patrick Stirling et al.

Summary: There is no clear consensus on whether placing the acetabular cup in the high hip center or the anatomic hip center provides better outcomes or long-term survival in patients undergoing THA for developmental dysplasia of the hip. Both cup positions have their own advantages and disadvantages, and surgeons should consider factors such as surgical complexity, complications, and hip biomechanics when making a choice. Researchers should address limitations in future studies, such as confounding factors, inconsistent definitions, variations in disease severity, small sample sizes, and follow-up periods.

Assessment of Acetabular Component Anteversion after Total Hip Arthroplasty: Comparison of Anteroposterior and Cross-Table Lateral Radiographs with Computed Tomography Scans

Tarun Goyal et al.

Summary: The study found a strong correlation between acetabular component version measured on plain radiographs and on CT scans. Good correlations were observed between different techniques of measurement on radiographs, indicating that these methods can be valid for assessing anteversion.

Comparison of Cup Setting Angle Accuracy between Computed Tomography-Based and Computed Tomography-Free Navigation in the Same Patients with Crowe's Classification I or II Hip Dysplasia

Nobuhiro Kaku et al.

Summary: This study compared the accuracy of cup installation between computed tomography-based navigation and computed tomography-free navigation, and found that the former is more accurate. When using computed tomography-free navigation, additional technical schemes are needed before and during surgery to improve cup installation accuracy.
