The Main Theories on the Pathogenesis of Endometriosis

Jelizaveta Lamceva et al.

Summary: Endometriosis is a complex disease characterized by the abnormal growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus. It affects approximately 10% of women of reproductive age worldwide. The disease causes significant symptoms, including severe pelvic pain, organ dysfunction, infertility, and mental health issues. The pathogenesis of endometriosis is still poorly understood, although several theories have been proposed. Understanding the exact mechanism of the disease is crucial for effective treatment. This review discusses the main pathogenetic theories of endometriosis based on current studies.

Treatment of Thoracic Endometriosis Syndrome: A Meta-Analysis and Review

Paola Ciriaco et al.

Summary: The study found that thoracic endometriosis syndrome (TES) should be managed jointly by thoracic surgeons and gynecologists. Chest-abdomen magnetic resonance imaging seems to offer the most details for TES. Combined or staged videothoracoscopy and laparoscopy can provide adequate information to fine-tune proper surgical treatment and postoperative medical therapy.

Summary: Diaphragmatic endometriosis and Thoracic Endometriosis Syndrome have gained significant attention in recent years, leading to improved understanding of symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment. The main manifestations include cyclic chest pain and catamenial pneumothorax, with multidisciplinary treatment being crucial for enhancing quality of life in most patients.

Environmental exposures to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and their role in endometriosis: a systematic literature review

Diksha Sirohi et al.

Summary: Endometriosis, an estrogen-dependent condition, may be influenced by environmental chemicals such as EDCs. Studies on the association between EDCs and endometriosis prevalence suggest a potential link with phthalate esters, bisphenol A, and organo-chlorinated environmental pollutants. Further research is needed to clarify the complex relationship between these exposures and the development of endometriosis.

Summary: Women with endometriosis often experience higher levels of stress, anxiety, and depression, with the effective treatment of the disease potentially reducing the psychological burden.
