Ultrasound localization microscopy of the human kidney allograft on a clinical ultrasound scanner

Sylvain Bodard et al.

Summary: Chronic kidney disease is a major medical problem, causing more than a million deaths each year worldwide. Noninvasive and quantitative diagnostic tools to measure kidney microvascular damage are lacking. Ultrasound Localization Microscopy (ULM) has shown promising results in assessing tissue microvasculature in kidney transplants and post-transplant kidney evaluation.

Assessment of Takayasu?s arteritis activity by ultrasound

Guillaume Goudot et al.

Summary: Ultrasound localization microscopy (ULM) based on ultrafast ultrasound imaging of circulating microbubbles can visualize microvascular blood flows in vivo up to the micron scale. This study aimed to perform vasa vasorum ULM of the carotid wall in patients with Takayasu arteritis (TA) and demonstrate that ULM can provide imaging markers to assess TA activity.

Sensing ultrasound localization microscopy for the visualization of glomeruli in living rats and humans

Louise Denis et al.

Summary: We observed the flow of microbubbles in the glomeruli of living humans and rats using a imaging technique called Ultrasound Localization Microscopy (ULM). This technique allows for the extraction of quantitative information from individual microbubbles, which could aid in understanding kidney function and diagnosing kidney diseases.

Coronary Flow Assessment Using 3-Dimensional Ultrafast Ultrasound Localization Microscopy

Oscar Demeulenaere et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated a 3D ultrasound localization microscopy technique that allows for the visualization and assessment of the coronary arteries in beating hearts. This new technology has significant translational potential for the clinical investigation of coronary microcirculation.

Functional ultrasound localization microscopy reveals brain-wide neurovascular activity on a microscopic scale

Noemi Renaudin et al.

Summary: Ultrasound localization microscopy (ULM) is a technique that allows localization and monitoring of cerebral blood flow at a small scale. By detecting the flow of injected microbubbles, ULM provides real-time information about brain activity at high spatiotemporal resolution.

Anatomic and Functional Imaging Using Row-Column Arrays

Jorgen Arendt Jensen et al.

Summary: Row-column (RC) arrays have the potential to achieve full 3-D ultrasound imaging with a reduced number of elements. By using synthetic aperture sequences and modified beamforming techniques, high-quality anatomic and functional imaging can be achieved. A RC array is also capable of super-resolution imaging and expanding the field of view.

Dynamic Myocardial Ultrasound Localization Angiography

Philippe Cormier et al.

Summary: Dynamic Myocardial Ultrasound Localization Angiography (MULA) is an ultrasound-based imaging modality designed to improve the diagnosis and treatment monitoring of coronary pathologies by mapping and measuring flow from intramyocardial arterioles and capillaries. This framework combines mapping of microvascular flow dynamics triggered by an electrocardiogram with a novel Lagrangian beamformer based on non-rigid motion registration algorithm to correct large myocardial motion and deformation. The MULA framework enables non-invasive imaging of the angioarchitecture and dynamics of intramyocardial flow in vessels as small as a few tens of microns in vivo.
