Arrhythmias Requiring ECMO in Infants Without Structural Congenital Heart Disease

Andrew Well et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate children under 1 year of age with a structurally normal heart requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for arrhythmias. The results showed that arrhythmias necessitating ECMO support in infants without structural congenital heart disease are rare, but the survival rate is over 85%. Earlier and more aggressive utilization of ECMO may result in improved outcomes.

Summary: The study validated the protocol for the timing of CDH repair using the quantified PDA flow pattern, indicating that this decision criterion might have the advantage of facilitating early and safe surgery for patients with CDH.
