Wear comfort and thermal insulation of ceramic-imbedded fabrics with different yarn structures by thermal manikin experiment

Hyunah Kim

Summary: This study examined the wear comfort and thermal insulation properties of Al2O3/graphite particle-imbedded sheath/core and dispersed fabrics. The findings showed that the thermal insulation of the dispersed fabric was superior to that of the sheath/core fabric, and the thermal insulation of both the dispersed and sheath/core fabrics was superior to that of regular PET fabric.

Aging of high-performance fibers used in firefighters' protective clothing: State of the knowledge and path forward

Md. Saiful Hoque et al.

Summary: This article provides a comprehensive review of the aging behavior of high-performance fibers used in firefighters' protective clothing. The research shows that different aging conditions affect different fibers to varying degrees, and the specific conditions in which aging is applied also impact the loss in performance. Techniques for quantifying the effect of aging on fire-resistant fabrics are briefly mentioned. The article also discusses the knowledge gained from this analysis and highlights research gaps and further areas of investigation in the critical topic of firefighters' protective clothing aging.

A wearable self-powered fire warning e-textile enabled by aramid nanofibers/MXene/silver nanowires aerogel fiber for fire protection used in firefighting clothing

Hualing He et al.

Summary: Firefighting clothing is crucial for protecting firefighters from burn injuries, but developing high fire safety clothing with an early fire alarm response remains a challenge. In this study, a wearable self-powered early fire warning e-textile was fabricated using Ti3C2Tx MXene/silver nanowires/aramid nanofibers (ANFs) aerogel fiber. This textile, integrated into firefighting clothing, can sense a wide range of temperatures and provide timely alerts to evacuate before clothing malfunctions. Additionally, a self-powered rescue location system was assembled to assist trapped firefighters in finding escape routes. This work offers a practical approach for the fabrication and application of self-powered early fire warning e-textiles in firefighting clothing for enhanced safety.

Manufacturing and Properties of Various Ceramic Embedded Composite Fabrics for Protective Clothing in Gas and Oil Industries Part I: Anti-Static and UV Protection with Thermal Radiation

Hyunah Kim

Summary: This study investigates the manufacturing and properties of ceramic-embedded composite fabrics for protective clothing in the gas and oil industries. The results show that ZnO-ATO-embedded composite fabric exhibits excellent UV protection and anti-static properties, making it suitable for fabricating workwear protective clothing. Additionally, ZnO-ZrC-embedded composite fabric demonstrates superior thermal radiation and UV protection, making it useful for protective clothing in cold weather regions.

Ultra-Violet Protection and Anti-Static Characteristics with Heat Release/Shielding of Al2O3/ATO/TiO2-Imbedded Multi-Functional Fabrics

Hyun-Ah Kim

Summary: This study examined the UV protection, anti-static characteristics, and heat release by far-infrared emissivity of PET fabrics embedded with different weight percentages of Al2O3/ATO particles. Fabrics with lower Al2O3/ATO weight percentages had better heat release and higher UV protection, while fabrics with higher ATO weight percentages exhibited superior anti-static properties.

Wear Comfort Characteristics of Al2O3/ATO/TiO2-Embedded Multi-Functional PET Fabrics

Hyun-Ah Kim

Summary: The study on Al2O3/ATO-embedded fabrics shows that fabrics with a low core ratio exhibit superior moisture absorption, breathability, and thermal wear comfort compared to fabrics with a high core ratio. The low core ratio fabric can better shield the far-infrared radiation emitted from sunlight, resulting in lower emissivity and emissive power.

UV protection properties of workwear fabrics coated with TiO2 nanoparticles

Hadiseh Rabiei et al.

Summary: The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the ultraviolet protective factor (UPF) of fabrics coated with TiO2 nanoparticles made using an in-situ synthesis method and assess the intrinsic properties of the textile more accurately. The results showed that in-situ deposition of TiO2 nanoparticles on fabric can provide adequate protection against UVR without affecting the intrinsic properties of the textile.

Investigation of moisture vapor permeability and thermal comfort properties of ceramic embedded fabrics for protective clothing

HyunAh Kim

Summary: This study examined the water and moisture vapor permeable and thermal wear comfort of different ceramic-imbedded fabrics for workwear protective clothing. The results showed that the ceramic-imbedded fabrics incorporating aluminum oxide and zirconium carbide exhibited superior thermal wear comfort properties due to greater heat emission, while the fabrics incorporating zinc oxide and antimony tin oxide had inferior performance in terms of water and moisture vapor permeability and thermal wear comfort due to lower heat release and the heat shielding effect of antimony tin oxide particles. Mixing zinc oxide and antimony tin oxide particles with zirconium carbide and aluminum oxide particles in the yarns could enhance the wear comfort of workwear protective clothing.
