Optical Goos-Hanchen effect in uniaxially strained graphene

Dariush Jahani et al.

Summary: We demonstrate the presence of large Goos-Hanchen (GH) shifts in strained graphene for p and s polarized beams propagating in different crystallographic directions. The GH shifts are observed to increase smoothly with the stretching of graphene's lattice. Furthermore, we investigate the dependence of the GH effect on strained graphene with respect to the Fermi energy, which can be controlled by external factors such as gate voltage. Our findings reveal that strain applied along zigzag and armchair orientations yield distinct results for GH shifts, offering a promising tool for strain detection in graphene.

Plasmonic Slot Waveguide Propagation Analysis

Amrita Pati et al.

Summary: Plasmonic slot waveguides offer extreme light confinement and have naturally present electrodes for switching and high thermal conductivity of the metal layers to remove excess heat. This study presents an analytical model of plasmonic slot waveguides that accurately determines the modal properties based on single-mode matching to continuum, with an accuracy of within 3% compared to rigorous numerical simulations. The theory enables rapid design and provides physical insight into mode propagation in plasmonic slot waveguides for various applications such as information processing, optical manipulation, and sensing.

Engineered FWHM enhancement in plasmonic nanoresonators for multiplexer/demultiplexer in visible and NIR range

M. Mohammadi et al.

Summary: This paper reports on a novel plasmonic multiplexer/demultiplexer based on the near-infrared range. By deriving exact analytical coupled-mode theory relations and reducing the discrepancy between analytical and numerical results, two-channel, four-channel, and six-channel M/Ds with small size, high-quality factor, and low cross-talk are successfully designed.

Optical quantum Hall Goos-Hanchen effect in graphene

D. Jahani et al.

Summary: A strong Goos-Hanchen (GH) effect at a prism-graphene interface in the quantum Hall effect (QHE) condition is reported. By fully quantum describing the temperature-dependent surface conductivity of graphene in the unconventional quantum Hall regime, magnetically strong tunable QHE GH shifts are observed. The study derives generalized Fresnel coefficients with antisymmetric conductivity tensor for the Kerr phase of linearly polarized incident light. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that at low temperatures, GH shifts exhibit plateaus as the magnetic field intensity increases. This quantum modulation of the GH effect in graphene by applied magnetostatic bias may provide new opportunities for optical devices and QHE sensing applications in 2D materials.

Design and numerical simulation of a sensitive plasmonic-based nanosensor utilizing MoS2 monolayer and graphene

Zohre Salehnezhad et al.

Summary: In this study, a sensitive biosensor for biomolecule detection was designed using a Kretschmann structure with a graphene-MoS2 hybrid layer. By incorporating a silicon layer, the nanosensor achieved enhanced sensitivity. This was attributed to the strong light-matter interaction between graphene and the semiconductor layer. The addition of an extra silicon layer and variation in the active metal led to a sensitivity of 192 degrees /RIU at a wavelength of 670 nm.

Magneto-tunable terahertz absorption in single-layer graphene: A general approach

D. Jahani et al.

Summary: Terahertz (THz) anisotropic absorption in graphene can be significantly modified by applying a static magnetic field, resulting in high anisotropic absorption for linearly polarized light at specific scattering angles. The absorption of monolayer graphene corresponds to its surface optical conductivity in the presence of a static magnetic field. Additionally, the temperature-dependent conductivity of graphene can lead to step-by-step absorption at very low temperatures, making it suitable for novel graphene-based THz applications.
