Nondestructive Characterization of Magnetic Polymeric Scaffolds Using Terahertz Time-of-Flight Imaging

Sonia Zappia et al.

Summary: Magnetic scaffolds are 3D composite materials loaded with magnetic nanoparticles in a polymeric matrix. This study presents a THz time-domain system approach for characterizing the scaffolds, allowing quantitative evaluation of their thickness and refractive index, as well as identification of areas with concentrated nanoparticles.

Summary: This article discusses the progress made in the field of THz imaging based on time-domain spectroscopy over the past 20 years, highlighting several important applications including 3D mapping of plant water distribution, THz reflection imaging of samples with arbitrary shape, burn wound imaging, and early diagnosis of diabetic foot disease. These applications have greatly benefited from the introduction of rugged and portable femtosecond fiber lasers for fiber-coupled THz time-domain systems. THz imaging is a versatile measurement method that has a wide range of practical applications and holds great promise for the future.

Overview of imaging methods based on terahertz time-domain spectroscopy

Qi Wang et al.

Summary: Due to the unique characteristics of terahertz (THz) waves, such as low-energy, penetrating, and broadband, THz imaging has been regarded as cutting-edge technology in many fields. High-performance THz imaging systems are becoming indispensable as technology demand grows. The ability of THz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) system to extract spectra from amplitude and phase information opens virtually unlimited possibilities for imaging applications. Researchers are focusing on fast imaging components and the latest developments of THz-TDS-based imaging methods to improve performance further.

Modular MA-XRF Scanner Development in the Multi-Analytical Characterisation of a 17th Century Azulejo from Portugal

Sergio Augusto Barcellos Lins et al.

Summary: A modular X-ray scanning system was developed to bridge the gap between portable instruments and mobile instruments, and it was compared to a commercial tabletop instrument by analyzing a Portuguese tile from the 17th century. The system used complementary techniques for a complete non-destructive characterization of the sample, resolving the complexity of XRF spectra through Monte Carlo simulations and Raman spectroscopy to identify coloring agents.
