Fajuan Tian et al.

Summary: By using a simple two-step electropolymerization method, we have developed an adhesive and long-term stable conducting polymer neural interface that shows excellent adhesion to metallic electrodes. This interface can potentially serve as a powerful tool for advanced neuroscience research and cutting-edge clinical applications like brain-controlled intelligence.

Comparative study between natural and artificial weathering of acrylic-coated steel, aluminum, and galvanized steel

Andrea Cristoforetti et al.

Summary: Accelerated methods are necessary to test organic coatings in less time, as testing under natural conditions is time-consuming. Investigating the correlation between accelerated and natural aging test results is important due to the inability of a simulated environment to fully reproduce actual operating conditions. This study examines the natural aging of painted steel, aluminum, and hot-dip galvanized steel under continental climate conditions for 1 year. The extent of deterioration is compared with samples weathered through accelerated testing, using various measurement techniques. The results highlight challenges in predicting the durability of organic coatings for metal structures.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation into the Effect of Water Uptake on the Capacitance of an Organic Coating

Steven A. Policastro et al.

Summary: Water uptake is a major factor in the loss of barrier properties in organic coating systems used for corrosion prevention on airframes. Using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), we tracked changes in coating layer capacitance for a two-layer coating system immersed in NaCl solutions. The capacitance curve showed two response regions, consistent with the two-stage kinetics mechanisms for water uptake by the polymers. Diffusion models and the Brasher mixing law were employed to estimate coating capacitance, which was found to be consistent with EIS data.

Water in polyurethane networks: physical and chemical ageing effects and mechanical parameters

Wulff Possart et al.

Summary: The chemical structure, polymer mobility, and mechanical properties of a cross-linked amorphous poly(ether urethane) (PU) were studied under different conditions. Water molecules primarily affect the PU in a physical manner, while chemical aging has a weaker and slower impact on the physical properties.

Stress and embrittlement in organic coatings during general weathering exposure: A review

S. G. Croll

Summary: This article discusses the causes and factors of coating failure, including environmental stress cracking, swelling and compression caused by moisture, thermal mismatch and bending. Degradation of the coating can lead to increased likelihood of failure of small defects, while the material becomes brittle, resulting in increased modulus and tensile strength, and decreased elongation and fracture surface energy. The Lake-Thomas theory and Poisson's ratio are also mentioned in relation to the structure and performance of the coating.

Physicochemical Mechanisms of the Double-Layer Capacitance Dispersion and Dynamics: An Impedance Analysis

Maximilian Schalenbach et al.

Summary: Gold is used as a model electrode to study the frequency dispersion and capacitance changes of the double layer in perchloric acid. The study reveals that the frequency dispersion of capacitance is mainly influenced by the electric field-driven ion separation, and is almost independent of the excitation amplitude.

Analysis of Galvanic Corrosion Current between an Aluminum Alloy and Stainless-Steel Exposed to an Equilibrated Droplet Electrolyte

Steven A. Policastro et al.

Summary: Measurements and theoretical predictions of galvanic corrosion between UNS S13800 and UNS A97075 in different electrolytes were compared. Discrepancies in corrosion current were analyzed, and a mechanism based on chemical reactions in the electrolyte to explain the corrosion phenomena was proposed.

Double layer capacitances analysed with impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry: validity and limits of the constant phase element parameterization

Maximilian Schalenbach et al.

Summary: This study compares the effects of CV and EIS measurement methods on double layer responses. It was found that CV shows good agreement with measured and modelled results at low amplitudes and within a certain scan rate window. However, at larger amplitudes, CV changes the ion arrangement in the double layer, leading to potential dependencies and deviations from CPE behavior.
