Investigations on the Microstructure and Corrosion Performance of Different WC-based Cermet Coatings Deposited by High Velocity Oxy Fuel Process onto Magnesium Alloy Substrate

Ewa Jonda et al.

Summary: Thermal spraying technique is widely used in the field of surface engineering, particularly for spray coating hardmetal and cermet coatings. This study investigated the influence of different WC-based coatings on the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloy elements. The results showed that WC-Cr3C2-Ni coating exhibited low corrosion performance.

Comparison of Aqueous and Gelled 3.5% NaCl Electrolytes for Assessing the Corrosion Resistance of Thermal Spray Stainless-Steel Coatings in Electrochemical Corrosion Tests

Pia Kutschmann et al.

Summary: Corrosion testing with gel electrolytes has gained attention in recent years for its non-destructive and in situ electrochemical measurements. Gel electrolytes provide an opportunity to prevent infiltration of microstructural features in thermal spray coatings. The corrosion behavior of stainless-steel AISI 316L coatings deposited on different substrates was analyzed in both aqueous and gelled 3.5% NaCl electrolytes, demonstrating that gel electrolytes can mimic the corrosion attack caused by aqueous electrolytes.
