Annealing temperature dependence of mechanical and structural properties of chromium-gold films on the silica glass substrate

Jianning Chu et al.

Summary: In this paper, the effect of thermal treatment on the mechanical and structural properties of thin gold films is studied. It is found that different properties have different transition temperature, and the optimal annealing temperature needs to be selected for desired film properties.

Transformation of bimetallic Ag-Cu thin films into plasmonically active composite nanostructures

Marcin Lapinski et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the optical properties of silver, copper and silver-copper composite nanostructures. The metallic nanostructures were fabricated by thermal disintegration of thin films in an argon atmosphere. A novel method based on resistance measurements was used to in-situ observe the formation process. The influence of initial film material and thickness on the disintegration temperature was examined. The electrical measurements were validated by scanning electron microscopy, and the behavior of the nanostructures was studied using XPS. The formation of silver-copper nanocomposite structures was confirmed by UV-vis spectroscopy, which showed plasmon resonance with two characteristic peaks.

Tuning of the plasmon resonance location in Au nanostructures coated with a ultrathin film of Al2O3-Optical measurements and FDTD simulations

Marcin Lapinski et al.

Summary: The study coated Au nanostructures with ultra-thin films of amorphous aluminium oxide. Optical absorption spectra showed that the thickness of Al2O3 influenced the plasmon resonance wavelength. The red-shift of the resonance location with increasing Al2O3 film thickness was attributed to the change in the dielectric function of the film. Two methods for determining the optical parameters of aluminium oxide ultra-thin films were presented in this paper. Experimental data obtained from various studies were in agreement with the results of computer simulations, demonstrating the potential of the simulation method in determining the dielectric constant and adjusting coating thickness.

Temperature-Dependent Growth and Evolution of Silicene on Au Ultrathin Films-LEEM and LEED Studies

Tomasz Jaroch et al.

Summary: The formation and evolution of silicene on ultrathin Au films were investigated, and the process was controlled by annealing rate and temperature. Large scale silicene sheets were successfully prepared by epitaxial growth of Au films on Si(111) surface. Different stages of silicene evolution were observed based on the final temperature, each characterized by unique surface morphology and diffraction patterns. The study also provided an overview of structures formed on the surface of ultrathin Au films and morphology changes with temperature.

The Influence of Thin Gold Electrodes on the High-Temperature Impedance of Oxide Glasses

Natalia Anna Wojcik et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of thin gold electrodes on the electrical measurements of glasses at high temperatures using impedance spectroscopy. It was found that the conductivity dropped significantly around 603 K during heating, and an additional relaxation process was observed in the low-frequency region, which was attributed to the thermal disintegration of the gold nano-layer.

Thermal dewetting as a method of surface modification of the gold thin films for surface plasmon resonance based sensor applications

Marcin Lapinski et al.

Summary: This study presents a quick and cost-effective method for fabricating surface plasmon resonance (SPR) based sensors. The sensors were obtained through thermal dewetting of thin Au films, resulting in plasmonic nanostructures. The manufactured devices showed good detection repeatability, selectivity, and sensibility. The sensors exhibited high robustness in liquid environments, making them suitable for large-scale commercial production.

Zhi-Jun Zhao et al.

Summary: A novel method for fabricating shape-controlled and well-arrayed heterogeneous nanostructures by altering the melting point of the metal thin film at the nanoscale is proposed. This method demonstrates the ability to fabricate uniform, stable, and unique structures with a fast, simple, and mass-producible process, suitable for various applications such as surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrates.

Experimental tuning of AuAg nanoalloy plasmon resonances assisted by machine learning method

Robert Koziol et al.

Summary: Plasmonic nanostructures based on AuAg nanoalloys were fabricated by thermal annealing of metallic films in an argon atmosphere to extend the wavelength range of plasmon resonance. The formation of nanostructures was investigated through initial fabrication parameters and experimental conditions, with analysis using SEM, XPS, EDS, and HR TEM measurements. The experimental research was complemented by a neural network model for fine-tuning the desired position of the plasmon resonance peak based on the thickness of Au and Ag layers and annealing time.

Summary: The study presents a heterostructure made of different phases of silicene, achieved through annealing ultra-thin layers of Au grown on the Si surface.
