Positron annihilation investigation of hardening behavior induced by Fe2 thorn irradiation in low-Cr FeCrAl alloys

Mingyou Niu et al.

Summary: Compared with 13Cr-FeCrAl alloy, micro-alloyed low-Cr FeCrAl alloy has higher potential for application as accident-tolerant fuel cladding material. Irradiation hardening occurred in FeCrAl alloy samples with different Cr contents, and the hardening response of 13Cr-FeCrAl alloy increased with the increase of irradiation dose. The defect density of 10Cr-FeCrAl alloy decreased with the increase of irradiation dose due to finer grain/precipitate size and higher fraction of boundaries.

Relation of embrittlement to phosphorus grain-boundary segregation for an advanced Ni-Cr-Mo RPV steel

Yu Guo et al.

Summary: The study aims to establish the relationship between phosphorus GBS and embrittlement in RPV steel, demonstrating a linear correlation between DBTT and phosphorous GBS concentration, and identifying the rate of material embrittlement associated with grain-boundary embrittlement and total GB area per unit volume. It also reveals a critical phosphorous GBS concentration affecting the embrittlement of specimens with different grain sizes.

On the irradiation tolerance of nano-grained Ni-Mo-Cr alloy: 1 MeV He+ irradiation experiment

Zhenbo Zhu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the irradiation damage behavior in nano-grained Ni-Mo-Cr alloy irradiated by He ions. Nano-grained GH3535 showed better irradiation swelling resistance than coarse-grained GH3535, but exhibited a more significant increase in hardness under the same irradiation dose, indicating stronger irradiation-induced hardening due to the impeding effect of grain boundaries decorated with He bubbles.

A hardening model considering grain size effect for ion-irradiated polycrystals under nanoindentation

Kai Liu et al.

Summary: This work introduces a new hardening model for depth-dependent hardness in ion-irradiated polycrystals with grain size effect, recommending the square superposition model for better characterization of ion-irradiated materials. The new model separates grain size effect from dislocation hardening contribution, leading to more rational parameter fitting.

Correlation between grain boundary strength determined by impact test of miniature specimen and stress corrosion cracking resistance of irradiated austenitic steels used for the internals of WWER-type and PWR-type nuclear reactors

Boris Margolin et al.

Summary: Impact bending tests were conducted on austenitic chromium-nickel 321, 316, and 304 stainless steels irradiated in different neutron energy spectra to analyze the effects of neutron dose and spectrum on grain boundary strength. Two neutron spectra were considered, typical of light water moderated reactors and fast neutron reactors. A correlation was found between resistance to stress corrosion cracking and grain boundary strength in the irradiated stainless steels.
