Achieving ultrahigh strength and ductility in high-entropy alloys via dual precipitation

J. M. Guo et al.

Summary: This study presents an innovative approach to achieve a high strength-ductility synergy by dual precipitation of sheared and bypassed precipitates. The (Ni2Co2FeCr)96-xAl4Nbx (at.%) alloys strengthened by nanoscale L12 particles and Laves precipitates exhibit a yield strength of more than 1400 MPa, an ultimate tensile strength of over 1800 MPa, and a uniform elongation of 18%, achieving a high strength-ductility synergy.

Electrochemical Surface Modification of Al8Co19Cr23Fe32Ni18 in H2SO4: A High-Entropy Alloy with High Pitting Corrosion Resistance and High Oxidation Resistance

Li Pao et al.

Summary: An Al8Co19Cr23Fe32Ni18 high-entropy alloy with solid solution of Al was prepared and its pitting corrosion resistance in 0.1 M NaCl and high-temperature oxidation resistance at 1273 K were assessed. The addition of Al resulted in a lower pitting potential, attributed to Al in the surface oxide film and Al nitride inclusions in the metal matrix. Moreover, potentiodynamic polarization in 1 M H2SO4 improved the pitting corrosion resistance of the Al8Co19Cr23Fe32Ni18 alloy without decreasing its high-temperature oxidation resistance.

Microstructure and corrosion properties of AlxCuFeNiCoCr(x=0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0) high entropy alloys with Al content

Rong Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, AlxCoCrFeNiCu high entropy alloy was prepared using the powder metallurgy method. The effect of Al content on the microstructure and corrosion properties of the alloy was systematically investigated. The results showed that increasing Al content promoted the formation of the BCC structural phase. The Al1.0CoCrFeNiCu high entropy alloy exhibited good electrochemical corrosion properties, with corrosion primarily starting in the form of spot corrosion. The FCC structural phase demonstrated better resistance to nitric acid corrosion compared to the BCC structural phase.

Tribological behavior of high-entropy alloy particle reinforced aluminum matrix composites and their key impacting factors

Yun Zhang et al.

Summary: Al0.5CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy particles reinforced aluminum matrix composites (HEAps/AMCs) with various reinforcement additions were fabricated and their wear properties were investigated. It was found that a moderate range of reinforcement exhibited lower coefficient of friction and wear rate compared to the matrix alloy. The HEA particles hindered plastic deformation and improved the crack resistance of the composites through tight interface and interaction with dislocations.

Summary: The use of SiCp/2024Al composite particles as deformable reinforcement in metal matrix composites showed higher toughness and comparable tensile strength compared to SiCp/Al composites with the same SiC particle content. The main deformation mechanism shifts with the increase in matrix strength, and uniform strain distribution was observed in the deformable particle/2024Al composites.
