On the microstructure and mechanical properties of FeCoCrCuNi high entropy alloy during hot compression

Mostafa Hedayati Marzbali et al.

Summary: This study investigated the behavior of FeCoCrCuNi high entropy alloy under different temperatures and strain rates through hot compression experiments. The results showed that the flow stress varied with temperature and strain rate, and changes in dendritic structures and partial dynamic recrystallization were observed. A constitutive equation was developed to accurately predict high temperature behavior.

Effect of initial microstructure on grain refinement under hot compression in CrMnFeCoNi high-entropy alloy with Al addition

Hiroyuki Watanabe et al.

Summary: The microstructural changes and flow behavior of a six-component high-entropy alloy were investigated under hot compression at 1173K. Results showed that the thermomechanically processed alloy with dense dispersion of second phases displayed steady-state flow and achieved finer grains compared to the homogenized alloy.

Effect of Bimodal Grain Size Distribution on the Strain Hardening Behavior of a Medium-Entropy Alloy

Ibrahim Ondicho et al.

Summary: The study on the evolution of strain hardening behavior of the Fe-50(CoCrMnNi)(50) medium-entropy alloy showed that the yield strength decreases with increased fraction of recrystallized microstructure and grain size. The bimodal grain distribution was found to have a significant impact on strain hardening, resulting in higher ultimate tensile strength compared to specimens with homogenous grain distribution. Additionally, the bimodal grain distribution contributes to extensive Luders strain and causes a significant deviation of the Hollomon equation at lower strains.

A comparative study of a solid solution hardening in carbon-alloyed FeMnCrNiCo0.95C0.05 high-entropy alloy subjected to different thermal- mechanical treatments

Elena Astafurova et al.

Summary: Different thermal-mechanical processing regimes were used to achieve a precipitate-free austenitic structure in interstitial FeMnCrNiCo0.95C0.05 high-entropy alloy containing 1.07 at. % of carbon. Near complete carbon dissolution in austenite was achieved utilizing two multistage thermal-mechanical processing regimes. Both processing regimes enhanced the mechanical properties of the alloy.

A novel high-entropy alloy composite coating with core-shell structures prepared by plasma cladding

Mingliang Wang et al.

Summary: A novel Ti(C,N)-reinforced BCC-based Cr20Cu20Fe20Ni20Al20 high-entropy alloy composite coating was prepared using synchronized powder feeding plasma transferred arc cladding. The coating exhibited a core-shell structure with high strength and toughness, resulting in improved wear resistance mainly through mild abrasive wear. The microhardness and wear resistance of the composite coating were significantly higher than those of the substrate and pure HEA coating.

Hot Deformation and Subsequent Annealing on the Microstructure and Hardness of an Al0.3CoCrFeNi High-entropy Alloy

Jun Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that hot deformation and heat treatment can alter the microstructure and hardness of high-entropy alloys, with high deformation temperature inducing dynamic recrystallization. Partial and complete recrystallization can occur after annealing, with a decrease in hardness related to the processes of dynamic recrystallization and recovery.

Heterogeneous Structure Design to Strengthen Carbon-Containing CoCrFeNi High Entropy Alloy

Xiaomeng Qin et al.

Summary: A carbon-containing CoCrFeNi high entropy alloy was obtained through thermomechanical treatments, which resulted in concurrent recrystallization and carbide precipitation in the alloy. The alloy exhibited a combination of high yield strength and large uniform elongation, with strength enhancement attributed to grain refinement, precipitation strengthening, and microstructural heterogeneity. The study demonstrated that heterogeneity design can be achieved through thermomechanical processes, offering a practical strategy for producing high-performance HEAs.
