Improving strength and ductility of low activation martensitic (LAM) steel by alloying with titanium and tempering

J. H. Zhou et al.

Summary: In the study, the role of alloying with Ti and tempering effect on tensile and creep properties in low activation martensitic steel (LAM) was elucidated, showing that lower tempering temperature can increase both yield strength and creep life. Additionally, grain size and carbide density were found to have an impact on the strength of the steel.

Fracture Resistance of Advanced High-Strength Steel Sheets for Automotive Applications

D. Frometa et al.

Summary: By investigating the fracture resistance of different AHSS sheets, it was found that the specific essential work of fracture is an important parameter for evaluating local formability and fracture resistance. Results show that fracture toughness cannot be estimated from parameters derived from tensile tests, and the importance of microstructural features on crack propagation resistance. A new AHSS classification mapping and a physically motivated fracture criterion for edge-cracking prediction based on thickness strain measurements were proposed.

Enhancement of Balance in Strength, Ductility, and Stretch Flangeability by Two-Step Austempering in a 1000 MPa Grade Cold Rolled Bainitic Steel

Shuai Tang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the microstructural evolution and properties of a cold-rolled bainitic steel under different austempering routes, focusing on the effect of retained austenite (RA) on mechanical properties and stretch flangeability. Two-step austempering enhances total elongation by providing more stable bainitic transformation and film-like RA, potentially improving the combination of strength, ductility, and stretch flangeability.

Summary: This study investigated the stretch flangeability of DP600 steel and found that the surface roughness of the hole has an inverse correlation with the hole expansion ratios. Holes prepared by electrical discharge machining showed the highest expansion ratio.Normalization of HER values with respect to the electrical discharge condition allows for estimation of HER values under different hole preparation conditions.
