Enhanced creep resistance induced by minor Ti additions to a second generation nickel-based single crystal superalloy

Jinbin Chen et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an alternative approach to enhance the creep resistance of nickel-based single crystal superalloys by slight composition modification instead of increasing the Re content. Experimental results show that the addition of minor Ti can increase the quantity and size of precipitates, improve lattice misfit, and enhance the partitioning behavior of the alloy. The Ti-containing alloy exhibits significantly improved creep resistance, extended creep life, and a stronger dislocation strengthening mechanism.

Recrystallization and grain growth kinetics of IN718 manufactured by laser powder bed fusion

Merve Nur Dogu et al.

Summary: The recrystallization and grain growth behavior of IN718 alloy manufactured by laser powder bed fusion were studied. The texture evolution of the samples under different temperatures and holding times was investigated, and it was found that the formation of recrystallization nuclei was related to high defect density regions, while the presence of non-coherent precipitates limited the growth of recrystallized grains.

Microstructure-performance relationships in Ni-based superalloy with coprecipitation of γ' and γ'' phases

Shengyu Zhou et al.

Summary: The correlation between microstructure-properties in a Ni-based superalloy and the coprecipitation of gamma'/gamma'' phases has been extensively studied. Experimental results show that a high amount of compact gamma'/gamma'' phases contributes to the tensile strength of the alloy, which decreases with the coarsening of the gamma'/gamma'' structures. The gamma'/gamma'' phases can hinder the motion of dislocations, and their size influences the deformation mechanisms.

Influences of stress-aging on the precipitation behavior of δ phase (Ni3Nb) in a nickel-based superalloy

Hao Cheng et al.

Summary: The precipitation behaviors of delta phases in a nickel-based superalloy are investigated under stress-free and stress aging tests. It is found that extra stress can accelerate the uniform precipitation of delta phase and increase dislocation substructures. Basket-weave delta phases precipitate regularly and densely within grains during stress aging, enhancing subgrain formation and resulting in uniform microstructures.

Strong elemental interaction enhances the thermal stability of coherent precipitation strengthened Cu-Ni-Al alloys

Z. M. Li et al.

Summary: The coherent cuboidal precipitation of gamma' phases can significantly enhance the high temperature properties of Cu-Ni-Al alloys. Introducing Si with strong elemental interaction can promote the precipitation of gamma' phases and suppress discontinuous precipitation, leading to improved stability of the matrix. The addition of Si decreases Gibbs free energy of gamma' phase and enhances cohesive energy, making the alloys more stable and homogeneous, thus optimizing the high temperature properties of Cu-Ni-Al-Si alloy.
