Statistical Study of Foreshock Transients in the Midtail Foreshock

Terry Z. Liu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed midtail foreshock transients statistically and found that they are more likely to occur at the dawnside, more significant closer to the bow shock, and rather stable along the tailward direction. The increase in electron temperature during these events may be proportional to the solar wind speed.

Ion Acceleration by Foreshock Bubbles

N. Omidi et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that the maximum energy attained by ion acceleration by foreshock bubbles is not dependent on the topology of the bubbles. However, the solar wind velocity does control the maximum energy reached by the acceleration process. Ion energization occurs through reflection from foreshock bubbles, exhibiting a self-similar energy distribution pattern.

Comparison of MMS Observations of Foreshock Bubbles With a Global Hybrid Simulation

S. H. Lee et al.

Summary: The multi-point observations of foreshock bubbles were compared with hybrid simulation predictions, showing good agreement. The presence of discontinuities and bubbles upstream from the bow shock was confirmed, with observations matching characteristics predicted by the simulation. This connection plays an important role in the formation of foreshock transients.
