Revascularization or medical therapy for stable coronary artery disease patients with different degrees of ischemia: a systematic review and meta-analysis of the role of myocardial perfusion

JingWen Yong et al.

Summary: For SCAD patients, revascularization treatment can reduce the incidence of MACES in patients with myocardial ischemia, but is ineffective for those without ischemia. Evaluation of myocardial ischemia is vital when selecting a treatment strategy.

Coronary In-Stent Restenosis: Predictors and Treatment

Helen Ullrich et al.

Summary: This article discusses the risk factors, diagnostic measures, and effective treatment strategies for in-stent restenosis (ISR). The type of implanted stent, presence of diabetes mellitus, previous bypass surgery, and small vessel caliber are predictors for ISR. European specialist societies recommend repeated PCI with DES implantation or DCB angioplasty as the methods of choice for ISR treatment.

Morphometric and Nanomechanical Features of Erythrocytes Characteristic of Early Pregnancy Loss

Ariana Langari et al.

Summary: Early pregnancy loss (EPL) is a common condition with no identifiable cause in half of the cases. This study used atomic force microscopy to compare the morphological and nanomechanical characteristics of erythrocytes from EPL women, healthy pregnant women, and nonpregnant women. The results showed that EPL erythrocytes differed in roughness value and Young's modulus, and displayed faster reduction in morphometric parameters and membrane elasticity compared to the control groups.

Nanomechanical properties of solid tumors as treatment monitoring biomarkers

Andreas Stylianou et al.

Summary: Tumors undergo mechanical property changes during cancer progression, and targeting components of the tumor microenvironment to normalize tumor mechanical properties can enhance drug delivery. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) was used to assess nanomechanical properties of tumor biopsies, showing sensitivity to changes in tumor mechanical properties during treatment. This has the potential to develop biomarkers for treatment prediction and monitoring.

Morphological and Mechanical Characterization of Extracellular Vesicles and Parent Human Synoviocytes under Physiological and Inflammatory Conditions

Samira Filali et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the morphology of fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) and the ultrastructure and mechanical properties of FLS-secreted extracellular vesicles (EV) from the synovial fluid of patients with osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and healthy subjects (H). It was found that under inflammatory conditions, healthy cells developed phenotypes similar to that of RA samples, indicating the importance of inflammatory processes in the loss of lubricating properties of the synovial fluid.

Distribution and Dynamic Changes in Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMP)-2, MMP-9, and Collagen in an In Stent Restenosis Process

Jing Shen et al.

Summary: This study simulated the process of neointima generation and regression after stent implantation, demonstrating the spatial distribution and dynamic changes of MMP-2, MMP-9, and collagen in ISR. The expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 decreased and collagen content reached its maximum when ISR occurred, suggesting their potential contribution to ISR.

A novel mechanism of inhibiting in-stent restenosis with arsenic trioxide drug-eluting stent: Enhancing contractile phenotype of vascular smooth muscle cells via YAP pathway

Yinping Zhao et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that arsenic trioxide (ATO) inhibits VSMC proliferation, induces phenotypic transition, and regulates the physiological processes of VSMCs by inhibiting Yes-associated protein (YAP) nuclear translocation. The interaction of YAP with the Rho-associated protein kinase (ROCK) pathway through ATO mediates the contractile phenotype of VSMCs. These findings provide insights into the potential clinical therapeutic mechanisms of ATO in drug-eluting stents for in-stent restenosis (ISR).

Substrate Stiffness and Stretch Regulate Profibrotic Mechanosignaling in Pulmonary Arterial Adventitial Fibroblasts

Ariel Wang et al.

Summary: Pulmonary arterial adventitial fibroblasts (PAAFs) play a crucial role in fibrotic vascular remodeling during the progression of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), responding to increased stretch and substrate stiffness by upregulating the expression of various genes. Differential regulation of gene expression by stretch and stiffness may provide insights into potential regulators of vascular adventitial remodeling in PAH in-vivo.

The emerging role of mechanical and topographical factors in the development and treatment of nervous system disorders: dark and light sides of the force

Natalia Bryniarska-Kubiak et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that physical factors such as the mechanical properties of cells and tissue, as well as topography, play a significant role in the progression of nervous system diseases. Understanding the roles of these factors can lead to the exploration of new therapeutic approaches.
